Limiting The Symptoms Of Dog Allergy

Allergy, as a condition, can be very difficult to live with. When one has allergies, then it almost often entails restrictions. Otherwise an allergic reaction would manifest upon exposure to the allergen. And allergic symptoms would arise, and they can potentially become fatal. But there are times when allergies can become more than a physical inconvenience.

Take the case of a dog allergy. A person or anybody in the family having dog allergy can cause emotional difficulties. People are almost often attached to their dogs. The master and pet bonding, and it can be deep seated at that. When a dog allergy arises, however, getting rid of the dog is often a major solution.

This has in fact happened all too many times. A person having to decide to do away with the dog because they or a family member has dog allergy. But dog allergy, it can happen to anybody. Dogs always have the potential to be allergenic. Allergens are always present in all types of pet hair and dander.

And this can cause the onset of dog allergy. All dogs, they produce dander. They urinate, shed hair and lick themselves to clean up. This normal behavior among dogs makes them an allergenic possibility. They can cause their owner or anybody in the house to develop dog allergy. There may be dogs which produce less dander, but this doesn’t rule out the possibility of them being a source of allergy.





Anyone can have a dog allergy, regardless of age, gender and even the breed of dog that they keep. In fact, no one can be immune from a pet allergy. The condition can happen to anybody and that’s that. And most people who suffer from any pet allergies, even dog allergy, may also suffer from allergies to pollen and molds.

The thing with pet allergies is that it is genetic in nature. A person with a family history of pet allergies is at higher risk to acquire the condition. What are the symptoms which may arise when one has dog allergy? Symptoms of dog allergy are similar to those which occur during an allergic reaction to hay fever or seasonal allergy.

They can be sniffling, runny nose, sneezing and coughing, itchy skin and throat and watery eyes. Symptoms of dog allergy are often the same as the symptoms experienced during a reaction to airborne allergens. Allergic reactions to dogs and hay fever or seasonal allergies are quite similar. It’s because when the condition occurs, the same systems are affected.

Measures ought to be taken to limit the symptoms which can manifest when one is allergic to dogs. For one thing, one can wash their hands after touching their dog. That way, dander can be removed. A more thorough treatment would in fact be to change one’s clothes and taking a shower.

It is also best to keep the dog out of the bedroom or the bathroom. That way, the areas in which the dog and its dander are exposed will be limited. Limiting exposure to allergens is one of the best means to inhibit allergic reactions.
