The Discomforting Joint Pain And Its Precursors

Tags: , , ,

When we think of that gnawing sensation that creeps into the recesses of the joints, what may probably come into mind is arthritis, or old age. Contrary to what many believe, though, arthritis is not the exclusive precursor to joint pain nor is it merely limited to adults. Discomforting joint conditions can afflict people of all ages, even fit individuals, and the underlying factors for those conditions are varied.

When the joints become inflamed or injured, then one should well expect that they will be painful, and any joint in the body can be affected. Such is the nature of joint pain. Although there are joint pains which are associated with aging, there are now more and more young adults complaining from the condition.

Such may not be surprising as a majority is wedged on extended hours in the office with tedious repetitive office jobs. Joint pain can be attributed to such factors. And so is a sedentary lifestyle and lack of fitness. As for the common condition associated with joint pain which is arthritis, it is perhaps rheumatoid arthritis which commonly causes it.

There are well over a hundred rheumatoid and joint related conditions, all of them instigating the manifestation of joint pain. For instance, there is osteoarthritis which is prevalent among the elderly. By osteoarthritis, it means the degeneration of the joints’ cartilage. Joint pain arises from osteoarthritis as the cartilage of the affected joint becomes roughened and wears down.

Rheumatiod arthritis which is regarded as an autoimmune disorder is also an underlying factor to joint pain. Septic arthritis, on the other hand, is caused by bacteria, and one of its symptoms is joint inflammation. Another sort of arthritis, gouty arthritis, is characterized by a defect in metabolism and also leads to the onset of joint discomforts.

Such a condition leads to an overproduction of uric acid or a diminished ability for the kidneys to eliminate uric acid. One or two joints may be affected by gouty arthritis. Tendonitis is also a condition which is a culprit behind joint pain. An inflammation of the tendons characterize tendonitis.

The tendons are the fibrous structures which join the muscles to the bones and with tendonitis, joint pain is generally experienced in the wrist, the elbow, the heel and the shoulder. It may well be common that joint pain is also caused by injury such is why even fit individuals experience it.

Those involved in sports at some points can experience accidents which can lead to the spraining, fracturing and tearing of ligaments and joints, and joint pain is to be anticipated in such instances. Bursitis which is an inflammation of the bursae, fluid-filled sacs which connect the tendons to the skin and the bones also result to joint pain.

Joint pain is also one of the symptoms of infectious diseases such as the flu and mumps among others. Treatment for joint pain is basically dependent on the underlying cause of the condition.
