Back packs are generally supported by the shoulders, back and hips. When one is off on a trip and has to carry a back pack, it is then essential that they make use of the right sort of back pack, otherwise problems can occur. Carrying a heavy back pack can cause tremendous discomfort to the shoulders and the back, and if one wants to make the most of their trip, it is best that they make a sensible choice in which back pack to use.
Back packs of different shapes and sizes and different features abound basically in every market corner. For those who intend to go out on a trail, there are varied back packs designed for varied purposes which can make a huge difference in their outdoor venture. Back packs are of two main categories: those with internal and external frames.

Bags with external frames are the original design of back packs for camping. Evidently, they have exposed metal frames in which the nylon pack is attached to. External frame back packs are often more versatile as more items can be strapped into their exposed metal frames. This allows the back pack to have added room for items which may not fit inside the bag.
In a larger group, it may be necessary that half of the people carry external frame back packs. Those carrying these sort of back packs can carry odd shaped items which everyone do not need to bring. For instance, they can be used for packing tents, multiple sleeping bags and kitchen utensils.
Although external frame back packs have more versatility than the other type, they are obviously more bulky and can be uncomfortable when carried. As for internal frame back packs, their frames are sewn into the back pack’s fabric. Generally, internal frame back packs are made up of about three metal slats.
These metal slats are formed in a manner that the weight of the pack is moved on to the shoulders and the hips. Internal framed back packs are referred to by most as “soft packs” as they do not have exposed metal frames. Such packs are not recommended for a camping gear but are rather ideal for packing snacks, clothes and personal items.
Internal frame back packs may also have s stiff foam rather than metal frames for weight support. These sort of back packs, being smaller offer the best comfort and are better used for trips wherein food and lodging will be provided for each night. External frame and internal frame back packs do however have one thing in common – they have a hip strap.
Back packs for an extended hike need to have a hip strap as the hips generally carry more weight than the shoulders. This allows for an even weight distribution which prevents discomfort to the spine. Aching muscles and joints when hiking or during your camping trip?
