Along The Way To Fitness Are Muscle Cramps

Tags: , , ,

When one aims for health and fitness, they should well expect minor bumps along the road. As they say, exercise often goes with pain, otherwise it will not be effective. An individual engaged in an exercise or muscle building regimen is apt to experience muscle cramps at some points during their training program, much more so when they are beginners.

Muscle cramps generally occur in the leg or stomach muscles and when they manifest, one would experience involuntary muscle contractions. Muscle cramps can range from being a minor discomfort to intensely distressing which can go to the point of disrupting an individual’s training workouts. As much as muscle cramps are common, there are some measures which can alleviate the frequency or even the probability of the condition.

Several factors are thought of to be precursors of muscle cramps, some of which are dehydration, low salt and low ion levels in the body. As such, it is best that one gets hold of an energy drink while training, preferably one which has proper sugar, salt and ion composition.

Other than that, one should also ensure that warm up is done sufficiently prior to training so as to prevent the onset of muscle cramps. By this measure for muscle cramps prevention, one can do some light jogging or skipping for 5 minutes to pump up blood circulation and to condition the cardiovascular system.

Muscle cramps can be alleviated as well through some dynamics or stretching before doing any weight training or intense exercises which help loosen the muscles. Such a measure will help prevent injuries and allow a full range of motion when working out other than thwarting muscle cramps. For beginners or those who have been out of training for a while, more emphasis ought to be rendered on warming up and cooling down as such individuals are more prone to develop muscle cramps.

To do away with muscle cramps, training intensity should be gradually built up and one must ensure that the muscles involved have 48 hours to recover before one trains them again. The foremost measure to consider when warding off muscle cramps is for one to remain well hydrated when working out.

This can be done by having ample intake of water or an efficient energy drink all throughout one’s training session. When it is hotter or more humid than usual, the more liquid one apparently has to take in as they generally loose more body fluid in which they have the tendency to have muscle cramps.

Muscle cramps are normal when one is engaged in a fitness regimen and the good news is they usually go away after a minute or so especially when the muscles are stretched, relaxed and left to rest for a few days.
