About Muscle Spasms, Fibromyalagia And Their Remedies

Fibromyalgia sufferers may be all too familiar with muscle spasms or muscle twitches. Those suffering from the condition often experience muscle spasms coming now and then. Such symptoms are basically inherent to the fibromyalgia, and in most cases, they occur in specific body areas such as the back, the legs and the backend among others.

Several theories abound as to why there is an onset of muscle spasms which go hand in hand with fibromyalgia. One which remains predominant is the theory that muscle spasms occur due to a lack of oxygen on the affected area which in turn is caused by a reduced blood flow.

Another theory pertaining to muscle spasms is that they may be instigated by overworking and overtiring the muscles thereby causing them to have diminished oxygen supply. And then there is the reflex action theory said to be one of the precursors to muscle twitching. There are those who assert that muscle spasms are a result of a vitamin deficiency as well.

One may be beset with muscle spasms due to a genetic predisposition. It is said that some individuals may be genetically predisposed to having small tears in their muscle fibers thereby causing its twitching. Whatever the cause or causes may be, one thing is certain- muscle spasms cause a discomfort to sufferers of fibromyalgia, whether the discomfort be a mild nuisance to a severe pain to an interrupted sleep.





Muscle spasms in the neck can bring on an onset of a chronic headache as well. So what to do to remedy the condition? For one thing, a hot compress applied over the affected area might help. By keeping the area warm, better blood flow in the area is instigated keeping it amply supplied with oxygen.

The same can be said with massage therapy as it promotes better blood circulation. Not only is massage therapy helpful for muscle spasms but it is an effective stress relief measure. Therapists and physicians often recommend stretching exercises for muscle spasms. Pertaining to this treatment measure, it is best that one obtains proper information from their healthcare provider on which stretching exercises would address the condition.

There is a number of gentle stretching exercises effective in loosening the muscles which can provide relief on the affected muscles. If one suffers from muscle spasms due to vitamin deficiency, their healthcare provider may give them vitamin shots or prescribe a suitable nutritional supplement. Magnesium can greatly aid in this endeavor as it is helpful in repairing damaged nerves.

Topical creams containing MSM can also help relieve muscle spasms as they have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Other than that, such creams also help increase blood supply in the muscles. As for alternative measures for muscle spasms which can be equally effective, one can resort to acupuncture. For those who are not at all thrilled with needles, another option would be acupressure which is said to greatly aid in relieving muscle spasms as well as other symptoms of fybromyalgia.

For all the above mentioned treatments, it is best that one seeks the advice of their healthcare provider prior to resorting to any of them.
