Promoting Dental Health And Well-being

Tags: , ,

is to be regarded as one of the foremost priorities of an individual. As much as others may think the mouth or the oral cavity is a negligible aspect of the body, the fact is actually the contrary. Poor dental health can be associated with the development of heart diseases and even oral cancer. Those two conditions are remarkably threatening and much more so, deadly. It is therefore essential that dental health be conscientiously tended to as it is necessary for overall health and well-being. Dental health includes good oral hygiene which not only prevents dental caries and tooth loss, but it also essential for cosmetic and social purposes.

As the health sector is well aware of the necessity of dental health, this agency has been engaged in constant propaganda and advocacy containing oral care measures. Such measures generally include activities designed to promote good oral health practices and to prevent the development of gum diseases, dental cavities and oral cancer. Within different states, dental health programs are conducted through core activities pertaining to oral health conditions. In partnership with private and public schools, local health departments and the dental community often arrange activities. A considerable amount of resources has been allotted by the American Dental Association for dental health activities such as the promotion of dental sealants and monitoring of the fluoride content of drinking water.

Such activities are generally geared on the prevention of dental diseases and problems. The dental community aims on inculcating good oral health practices from childhood, thus, it encourages classroom oral care activities. Through posters, contests, interactive dental health games, classroom presentations and health fairs, dental care and proper oral hygiene education and awareness are introduced to children enabling them to incorporate such practices into their daily lives and eventually carried out into adulthood. Other oral care activities focused on children include the organization and administration of school dental screening and fluoride mouth-rinse programs. Certain dental health topics which include bad breath, brushing and flossing, good nutrition and overcoming the fear of dentist visits are presented to primary school children as well.

Furthermore on this endeavor, various state dental health programs assess community needs, apply research projects and conduct epidemiologic surveys pertaining to the trend in dental care and practices. As for oral disease prevention and advocacy against tooth decay, government, schools, community and corporate partners as well as care providers are coordinated in launching nationwide activities and campaigns. Awareness of the significance of dental health is one of the major concerns of organizations such as Oral Health America which develops and implements service and educational programs pertaining to such objective. Surveys and researches on dental health and issues carried out by concerned agencies provide information which will be beneficial in the designing a responsive and appropriate community programming.

These oral health activities vary in scope and range within each state and are dependent on the needs of the population. Funding for such activities are allotted through state grants for innovative dental programs and activities and for improved access to facilities and services.
