The Promising Outlook Of A Dental Hygienist

Indeed, more and more people are considering getting into the dentistry field. And one of the best means is to have a career change or get further education and be a dental hygienist. Now is actually a good time to do it for those who are contemplating. The United States Department of Labor has cited that being a dental hygienist is one of the most in demand jobs of the current times. More so, it will probably continue in the next ten years. Being a dental hygienist means that one has a relatively good paying job and with flexible hours at that .

Working moms can have their chance of earning extra and having a good keep. What’s more, they can have a career in a respected field- that of dentistry. When actually doing the job and into the field, a dental hygienist performs the following. They would clean the patients’ teeth and then remove stains. They would also be teaching patients on proper oral care and hygiene measures. In some states, others would take x-rays and even give anesthesia to patients. They would take notes on the patients’ oral health and then give them to the dentist. One may need to have additional schooling, but the payoff will be worth it in the long run.



What is this “additional schooling”, one may ask? Primarily one has to get a high school diploma. And at least an associate’s degree in dental hygiene would be required. Such courses can be taken at a trade school, or perhaps a community college. When one opts to go to a trade school, then they may require at least a year’s attendance in college. will be taken after which one would get their degree. After that, one would be taking a written and clinical exam to get their license as a dental hygienist. Compensation as a dental hygienist depends on several factors.

Among them are experience, schooling, and where one works. On the average though, one can earn $29 an hour. As for hygienists with a bachelor’s or master’s degree working as teachers or clinicians, the package is more attractive. They can earn as much as $40 an hour. Can one work part time with this job? Well, yes, and in fact, there are dentists with hygienists who work with them 2 or 3 days a week. Some hygienists however work in several offices and then work full time. And what about the benefits for hygienists? As most of them work in private offices, they can get the privilege of paid vacations.

Among their other benefits is . Dental hygienists are currently in demand because of the nature of their job. The provide care and guidance on oral health and hygiene, and it’s what many people need. After all, oral health is not to be brushed aside or taken lightly. As much as others may think it’s trivial, it is actually not. Oral health has to be well tended to, otherwise there would be . A dental hygienist is there to prevent and remedy the possibilities of these.
