Yes, Periodontal Disease Can Be Reversed

Tags: , ,

It may well be a wake up call for those neglectful of their dental health and hygiene that dental diseases can be associated with heart disease. It is especially true of . It does involve an intricate process, but one should take into account that periodontal disease can lead to a heart attack. Before periodontal disease wreaks such a tremendous health havoc then, it is best that one resorts to early intervention once there is an onset of the disease. Yes, periodontal disease is reversible but what must be taken into account is that it has to be addressed in its initial stages for the treatment to be successful.

Periodontal disease, in its advanced stages can be reversed as well, but one should not get complacent as by then, it may take complex procedures and added expenses. It is best not to allow periodontal disease to get out of hand so that one can not only be spared from complications, but mounting up medical expenses as well. In its early stages, can be reversed with a conscientious dental hygiene regimen. This may mean brushing the teeth thoroughly before bedtime and upon waking up in the morning. Trapped bacteria between the teeth can also be removed by brushing or at least rinsing the mouth with water after meals or snacks.

A good anti-bacterial mouthwash for rinsing two times a day for 30 seconds will also be helpful in reversing early periodontal disease. This measure will help reach bacteria trapped in pockets below the gum line. Flossing daily is also necessary, especially on the area just below the gum line. A better option than rinsing or flossing may also be powerful oral irrigators. Oral irrigators blast out food particles in between the teeth and clean the gum line. Special tips on how to reach deeply into pre-existing pockets and clean those areas out come with high end oral irrigators and such tips are necessary and helpful as measures for reversing periodontal disease.

While a conscientious dental care may be effective for the early onset of the disease, in its advanced stages, professional help may need to be sought. If periodontal disease becomes severe, the dentist may need to perform a periodontal cleaning to ensure that periodontal disease does not degenerate. Through an x-ray, the dentist can determine whether deep pockets of bacteria are surrounding the teeth and the gum line after which they may recommend special procedures. Such sophisticated procedures can range from scaling or root planting to debridement to thoroughly reach into the gum line and scrape out bacteria. It is only then that the teeth become less hospitable to bacteria and periodontal disease can be called to a halt.

Other than that, essential to overturning a stubborn periodontal disease is a prescription anti-bacterial mouthwash which the doctor may order following a dental procedure. If the periodontal disease condition so requires, the dentist may also perform an actual periodontal surgery and such is basically a drastic means for acute cases. It is a fact however, that 50% of those who have moderate to severe have increased chances of successful recovery than those who resorted to non-surgical options.
