Can you imagine what it feels like to be free, but still lowered back to the dungeon of darkness? This is how a depressed person feels when having a relapse. In my own point of view depression cases that have a very high relapse incidence are very dangerous. The reason behind this is because such attitudes may change in any given time of the day; this condition is called Relapse As such, this can cause devastating effects to the person concerned, why? Simply because this instant change of mood may cause the person his job, his relationship or his even health.
Yes, this mental illness needs utmost care and support of the patient’s family and friends. It is estimated that there are at least 121 million people around the world suffering and struggling from Depression. It could be one of your family members, or you may even be one of them; But before going further let me state my stand that there is nothing to be ashamed about your condition, or the condition of one of your family members, simply because we are living in a world where at an instant anything can happen.

And such conditions are never wished for or invited by any person with a sane mind. In the same vein, depression is a medical condition that needs attention, care, support and treatment; in which you are being watched upon and checked at every single moment. My point is if you have a family member who struggles with this condition, then provide them with utmost care and support.
Let them feel that they are important by letting them out of the dark, but pointing them to the right direction, this way they will not fear the unknown and as such Anxiety will slowly be erased to their system, and one of the depression symptoms will or slowly be solved.
In the advent of modern science, I am pleased to say that depression and relapse cases have a growing number of new and improved therapies, the best part of this is that these new and improved therapies have been proven to be more effective; but sad to say, some of these treatments are only temporary.
Most depression treatments I know are done through medication like those of antidepressants, but ironically this form of treatment are amongst the highest rate of relapse. If this is so, I would still opt for cognitive treatment as a therapy. Why? Because it is in this therapy that doctors “connect” with the patients personal emotions simply because interpersonal therapies have been fairly effective to prevent relapse, and because they can evaluate themselves and the world around them.
I would also like to mention of other cases of relapse; An example of this is when a patient’s dark clouds of depression has subsided, then the patient would immediately think that he is totally healed, and would eventually stop taking further medications, and therapy. And who is to blame for this? Well let’s put it this way, Depression therapies are very costly, time consuming and may be very inconvenient.
So in short, patients who are in a near healing process will opt to stop medications and therapies because the process is costly and inconvenient to all people involved. This is where your support will come in; let them feel important by guiding them to the right direction. At some point in time, you have shared a moment of laughter and a precious moment of your time with your depressed family members or friends, and to see them in this condition is saddening also in your part, I therefore challenge you to offer a hand to these people stricken with depression, let them feel your presence, let them feel important by offering a ministry of “listening” or a buddy they can converse; all that matters is that you are there and you showed that you care.
