The Clouded Theories About Crohn’s Disease

Tags: , , ,

Our society is beset by countless diseases in which no one may be spared. Even as those who keep to a regular health regimen are prone to develop diseases, no one can indeed be certain that they can be completely healthy. In fact, even food that one thinks is healthy can be capable of triggering conditions which when left untreated can degenerate and become threatening.

It is still best, though, that a healthy lifestyle and the augmentation of health supplements be implemented so as to strengthen the immune system and lessen the chances of contracting diseases. And even if one would acquire a disease, a healthy person can have a speedier recovery. One of the possibly detrimental diseases threatening a portion of the populace and yet still covered with clouded theories is Crohns disease.

Researchers have constantly been in search for answers primarily on the cause or causes of Crohns disease so as to find the exact cure. There have been theories that Crohns disease may develop when one is in the habit of smoking or it could be due to a genetic predisposition as those having Ashkenashi Jewish ancestry are more prone to it.

The CCFA or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America has been funding researches on Crohns disease and so far, progress has been made in the fields of immunology, microbiology and genetics pertaining to the cause of Crohns disease. The most recent belief by far as to what triggers Crohns disease is a viral or bacterial interaction with the body’s immune system or that an agent may be responsible for damaging the intestinal wall causing the progressive acceleration of Crohns disease.

Researches obtained findings among the immune system of the sufferers of the disease wherein it has a reaction to a normal bacteria in the digestive tract. Their immune system acts as though it is attacking and destroying a foreign element in the guise of a normal bacteria in the digestive system.

By far, doctors have implemented specially designed drugs to turn the immune system’s reaction off and to reduce the manifestations of Crohns disease. When a person is beset with Crohns disease, there are ulcer formations in the digestive tract after which an inflammation would occur. The subsequent inflammation narrows the intestinal wall thereby altering food digestion.

A person with Crohns disease may have bowel movement difficulties as the stool passage becoming hampered. Blood in the stool can result from this as well and there is diminished absorption of essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin B12 and folic acid. Those with Crohns disease can also suffer from painful gall and kidney stones.

Whether the indications of Crohns disease are mild, moderate or severe, it is necessary that they be recognized and intervened in the initial stages. Otherwise, Crohns disease could degenerate resulting to abdominal wall infection, pancreas scarring and colorectal cancer. To date, there may be no established facts yet on the causes of Crohns disease but there are preventive and treatment measures that can be taken such as the implementation of a special diet, coping with and alleviating stress, proper medications and ensuring that the diet is abundant in antioxidants.

Science and medicine may never well give up so there is hope for those beset with Crohns disease.
