Just What The Doctor Said About Herpes Simplex

Tags: , , ,

Some people may experience symptoms of painful blisters, rashes or lesions around the lips, inside the mouth or the tongue, or in some cases, they will manifest around the genitalia for men and women. At times, these lesions can go internally into the urethra and into the vagina in women.

When these blisters, rashes or lesions are cause by a virus known as the herpes simplex virus, then an individual with these manifestations may have contracted a disease called herpes or herpes simplex. Herpes simplex is of two categories. Herpes simplex 1 or HSV1 is the most common type of herpes which can affect individuals from a very young age.

The symptoms of this disease become apparent in the oral region, usually forming around the lips or the mouth, or inside the mouth and the tongue. Herpes simplex 2 is generally considered as a sexually transmitted disease that is, acquired by a person through sexual relations with an infected partner.

HSV2 symptoms become visible in the genital region and can infect both men and women. Women can become affected internally by herpes simplex into the vagina and the urethra. An outbreak of herpes simplex can last from a few days to several weeks, and once the blisters become ruptured, the outbreak generally subsides.

Although acquiring the disease is usually undetected, an individual can sense once there is an onset of an outbreak. In its initial stages when an individual would feel a “tingling” sensation in those susceptible areas, it is advisable that treatment measures be applied so as to prevent the worsening of the disease.

Individuals infected with herpes simplex can have an aggravated condition through stress, fatigue, anxiety and carelessness. Herpes simplex is highly contagious being instigated by a virus. It means that a person infected with the disease can spread the virus to other people with direct contact such as kissing, sex and oral sex, and in sharing personal items such as a lipstick, toothbrush, spoon, cup and so on.

To avoid contracting herpes simplex, it is advisable that an infected individual wash their hands after touching the blisters to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the body. It is likewise advised when a person had even light contact with an infected individual. It is primarily essential that a person suffering from herpes simplex refrain from any sexual relations as this is a surefire means of infecting their partner.

It is necessary as well for the infected individual not to share their personal belongings and utilities with others. Taking warm baths added with baking soda will also aid in alleviating the pain and itchiness of the herpes simplex outbreak and to dry the affected areas with cotton. Eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly and getting adequate rest may also be helpful as anxiety can trigger outbreaks.

For sexually active individuals, it is best to adhere to the safe sex rule of using condoms and spermicide to prevent themselves from contracting the herpes simplex. By far, there is no known cure for herpes simplex but to relieve the discomfort of the herpes sores and to reduce the occurrence of outbreaks.

With a healthy lifestyle and sexual practices, one can prevent the contraction of herpes simplex. And for those who are infected, the most suitable cure for the disease can help pave the way for a normal life.
