Understanding The Lyme Disease Predicament

Tags: , , ,

As much as it may seem comforting to be out there in the woods with lush greeneries savoring the feel of the cool, damp grass, one must foremostly be wary that being exposed to such an environment can put them at risk for contact to ticks which might be infected with Borrelia Burgdorferi otherwise known as lyme disease.

As much as an individual may think that they are unlikely to contract lyme disease, they might think twice as the condition is not as rare as it seems. Lyme disease is an epidemic and an infected individual can transmit it through sexual intercourse, from a mother to her unborn child and through breastfeeding.

One can even acquire it through contaminated food. Fifty percent of chronically ill individuals may have lyme disease contributing to their condition. Those with autoimmune disorders have their symptoms aggravated or caused by lyme as well. Lyme disease was not recognized in the United States until 1975 and it remains to be one of the most vague and devastating diseases of this day.

Tests which are conducted for accurate diagnosis of lyme can be unreliable as often times the bacteria can go undetected in the immune system and in some cases, many organs may have been already invaded by the infection until the symptoms manifest. It is only expedient that an individual seek medical attention once they suspect that they are beset with symptoms of lyme disease as the condition can become chronic when not treated within the first few weeks after the infection.

To be on the look out for when suspecting to have been infected by Borrelia are symptoms of lyme disease in its early stages such as fever, headache, stiff neck, tiredness, temporary muscle aches, brain wave disruptions apparent in sleep disorders and peculiar enlarging rashes or bruises which may become visible during the first three days to a few weeks.

When lyme disease goes untreated or its symptoms neglected, the manifestations generally progress. In its later stages, the indications of lyme disease can become chronic such as severe headaches or migraines, profound fatigue, fever, arthritis like symptoms such as muscle aches and pains, flu-like symptoms, vision changes and rashes (possibly a bull’s eye rash).

Conventional therapy for lyme disease generally includes pharmaceutical medications, but they can go with side effects such as nausea or vomiting, gastric irritation, diarrhea and kidney and liver toxicity. Another downside of this treatment measure for lyme disease is that the medications, although they can be merited for doing their job, eliminate both the body’s good and bad bacteria.

For individuals who have been infected by lyme disease, they can opt for natural treatment of the disease if they find that conventional medications are disagreeable. Natural treatment for lyme disease has been resorted to by thousands of individuals and there have been significant claims that they are effective. For those who decide on treating lyme disease naturally, they can ask their doctor and have a thorough discussion about the measure.

It is well within the individual’s choice which option they wish to take for lyme disease treatment as long as the risks and consequences have been carefully weighed.
