Sexually Transmitted Diseases And Their Risks

Tags: , ,

True, sex is to be enjoyed without fear and inhibitions, but one must be safe about it. It is best done within the right context and with a person one can trust. With the significant risk of sexually transmitted diseases, it’s better safe than sorry. After all, sexually transmitted diseases can have grave consequences. Some sorts of these diseases are incurable, others even deadly such as . At the height of the moment, one may not be able to think about protection against sexually transmitted diseases, but protection measures have to be borne in mind. And yes, implemented.

So much can be at risk when one is not careful. For instance, in untreated cases of Chlamydia- they can result to infertility and birth defects. Chlamydia is among the most widely circulating sexually transmitted diseases. Then there is HPV or genital warts- it is linked to female cervical cancer. As for herpes, it is an incurable skin condition and it affects the genitals. Then there are ominous sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS and HIV. The risk of contracting such diseases is astoundingly high. Take for instance the studies conducted by the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention. They cited that there are 2.8 new cases of Chlamydia every year in the United States alone.

Women are especially susceptible in contracting this STD. The rate of new cases of Chlamydia among women is 3% higher than that of men. Abstinence remains to be the best protection against STD’s. As others may not be content with such a measure, using condoms is also effective. The use of both male and female condoms would do. But there is a better and safer option and that is to use male condom along with spermicide. There are women who use contraceptive measures, but it must be noted that they are for a different purpose. Contraceptives are for preventing pregnancy and they can’t protect against STD’s.

To be properly protected against them, condom has to be used 100% of the time. Testing for such diseases is also an important thing to consider. Getting tested regularly for STD’s is an essential matter for a . Serious physical consequences can be instigated when an STD goes untreated, so sexually active people must be wary. Treatments are often quick and painless, although it is dependent on the nature of infection. On the practical side, it is always wise to play with caution. So it is with matters concerning sex. Much can be at risk with reckless and negligent behavior.

When it comes to sexually transmitted diseases, it may not only be one person’s health at stake. Their partner’s and their child’s can be jeopardized as well. A healthy, with a person one can trust is the best means to enjoy sex to the fullest. Other than this, there is again protection- the use of condom- so as to reduce or eliminate the risk of infection. When it comes to STD’s, prevention is better than cure, as sometimes a cure may be too late.
