It has been on the scene only since the 1990’s and not many facts are known about it yet to this point. Current studies are ongoing to find out more about ecstasy. The brain’s ability to produce serotonin becomes impaired. Serotonin is a chemical in the brain which regulates appetite, sleep, memory and mood. The pills can vary in potency and users may not be aware of how much they have already taken. Some users might even mix other
with it. And there are many cases when the pill is secretly slipped into drinks at clubs making one an easy prey for sexual assaults. Some also practice “stacking” or taking multiple doses. This is highly dangerous as it can lead to heart attack, seizure and even death. Signs of ecstasy use are the following: A person becomes extremely alert and has slurred speech.
Their heart rate increases and blood pressure is elevated. Teeth grinding would also result as use of the drug causes tension in the jaw. After taking the pills, a person could become depressed leading to mood swings. Sweating also becomes a problem, or low body temperature known as hypothermia. There would be an inability to control body temperature. Lastly, the user becomes excessively thirsty and would experience dry mouth. Parents have to stay on guard and monitor their children’s activities. They should be keen on looking out for changes in their kids’ behavior.
