Being Wary Of The Use And Effects Of Marijuana

Tags: , ,

Drug abuse has long been considered as a nagging social menace as it is often the gateway to drug addiction. And when one is enmeshed in the mire of drug addiction, the struggle can become so agonizing as it would basically strip an individual of the liberty to enjoy normal functionality and a good quality of life. Countless drugs have now become accessible for abuse, each one posing a social and personal peril which has become a formidable fiend to contend with. Marijuana, since then and now is probably regarded as the most prevalently abused yet accessible drug. Cannabis sativa is the source plant from which marijuana is derived.

In fact, the word marijuana literally means weed, grass or pot and such terms have basically become a common by-word. The widespread use of marijuana have made the drug controversial owing to the certain hazards that it brings about on the human body. The are felt even on a moderate dose, and by these effects of marijuana, it does not only mean the euphoric but destructive high that the drug instigates but its adverse consequences on the body as well. There are about 400 elements within this drug making cannabis categorically potent. The most detrimental effects of marijuana, however, come from THC or tetrohydrocannabinol which is considered as the drug’s most compellingly penetrating psychoactive element.

The strength of the effects of marijuana generally depends on the amount of THC present, the type of plant and the conditions upon harvesting and it is believed that marijuana becomes more potent with the passing of time. An individual is in fact more apt to suffer from grave effects of marijuana once hashish, another marijuana plant product, is involved. Such is because hashish has greater THC content and stays in the body for a month or so being fat soluble. The effects of marijuana are not merely psychoactive, but biological as well. Scientific researches have indicated the harmful on the human reproductive system.

Such studies have cited that the effects of marijuana have to do with the loss of male and perhaps female fertility. The effects of marijuana on male fertility involve the obstruction of sperm mobility and sperm count reduction. THC also plays a major role on the effects of marijuana pertaining to decreased volume of the seminal fluid. The process of sperm hyper activation is hampered by the effects of marijuana as there have been findings which indicated that marijuana smokers’ sperm initially moves too fast yet immediately burns out before the process of fertilization takes place. A temporary male infertility is then one of the detrimental effects of marijuana although it is reversible within 30 days of ceasing to use the drug.

The effects of marijuana on female fertility have not been established to date, but like other drugs, marijuana crosses the placenta. It is therefore inadvisable that females use the drug. Furthermore, premature births and low birth weights have been attributed as some of the due to maternal use.
