Office Ergonomics, Productivity And Employee Loyalty

Tags: , , ,

Majority of urban dwellers are wedged in white collar jobs in this technologically dominated era. As such, companies have the corporate responsibility that their employees are given due comfort and convenience while working. This will ensure maximum productivity as well as increased loyalty to the company. More often, much of the workings in the society are carried out in office jobs, and by no doubt, white collar jobs and workers have become indispensable.

It is only appropriate and considerate on the company’s part that their employees’ needs be catered to and to prioritize their welfare which is essential in business success. This is where office ergonomics come in. More often, employees are wedged in their desks constantly facing the computer. Office ergonomics would only dictate that ergonomic furniture be provided to the employees to avoid aches and discomforts that are associated with their tedious daily tasks.

To keep the work going and to ensure employee efficiency, office ergonomics is the key component. Within the scope of office ergonomics that employers must ensure are prevention of office mishaps often due to sitting abnormally or hitting one’s head on the shelf. Office ergonomics is definitely a much practical and better measure rather than paying for employee medical treatments as compensation for injury.

The measure of providing ergonomic furniture is often less costly rather than wasting considerable time and resources due damage instigated by poor office ergonomics. Investing in ergonomic desks, chairs and other furniture may well be worth it as there is less likelihood for the company of being burdened by constant employee complaints of low back pains and sore forearms or wrists.

Through this measure, employees become appreciative of the company’s constancy and sympathy to their employees. It is only then that employees become dedicated to their jobs as they are well aware of the company’s concern for their welfare. Furthermore, ergonomic furniture which promote a better working environment will build better employer-employee relationship boosting the morale of the latter which will be beneficial for the company’s competence.

Proper office ergonomics entails that employers not use desk, but rather set up computer terminals properly. Desks are 2 to 3 inches off and are meant for writing whereas office ergonomics computer terminals are most suited for long hours of working in the computer. Poor office ergonomics such as improperly set up computer terminals can cause pain and discomfort in various parts of the body.

Office ergonomics also include proper arrangement of computer screens. To prevent neck and back problems, office ergonomics include proper arrangement of computer screens which should ideally be set up in a higher level. Adjustable chairs are also a must in office ergonomics, specifically those that employees can adjust according to their requirements.

Chairs which are most fitting for office ergonomics are those with tilting seats, adjustable height, smooth adaptable S-type backrests and rotating 5-wheel support. While typing, proper office ergonomics include forearm rest and wrist cushions. Furniture which is properly arranged so as the employee need to stretch to remove a file from the cabinet or storage location is also one of the requirements for proper office ergonomics.
