With an exercise ball, one can perform different types of workouts. Being so, multiple fitness purposes can be carried out with an exercise ball. Primarily, an exercise ball is used for exercise and physical therapy. For physical therapy purposes, exercise balls are used for lower back pain treatment. In fitness training, balls are used to strengthen and develop the back and the abs.

Exercise balls are also crucial in strength or weight training. They are used to increase stability as well. Exercise balls are generally made of vinyl, solid foam rubber or plastic. The main principle behind the use of exercise balls is “proprioception”. By this it means the awareness of one’s hand or foot in relation to space.

The body is forced to constantly measure its orientation to space due to the ball’s instability. As a consequence, one’s stability and balance is further increased. For those with back problems, an exercise ball can be helpful. One must take into account however that the ball should be approved by their doctor or physical therapist.

This is to ensure that the exercise ball will not cause any more mishaps. Exercise balls are specifically designed for individual height measurements. Balls measuring 55 cm are ideal for those 4’11” to 5’4” tall. For those 5’5” to 5’11” tall suited would be 65 cm balls. Seventy-five centimeter balls are appropriate for those 6’0” or taller.

Exercise balls with an anti-burst system are the most ideal choice. By this, it means balls made of strong material that won’t easily explode. Such balls will not easily give in when pinched or punctured. But if the exercise ball does get accidentally punctured, it does not instantly explode. Exercise balls with an anti-burst system leak air out slowly when accidentally pinched.

It is also best to choose exercise balls which can carry a heavy load. This will allow the user more flexibility and freedom of movement. Other than that, mishaps and injuries can also be avoided. There are exercise balls specifically designed to carry a range of weight. In fact, some balls have been particularly made to take on 600 pounds of weight.

Exercise balls are one of the excellent options for health and fitness. If one is resourceful enough, they can find that there are diverse choices for an exercise equipment. Health and fitness is largely a matter of choice and commitment. Exercise balls present themselves as a consistent partner in this endeavor.
