Lifetime Fitness: A Noble Idea And A Commitment

Tags: , , ,

According to statistics, the average life span in the United States increased from 47 years old in 1900 to 77.3 in the turn of the century. As much as this may seem like an encouraging fact, much is to be said about the quality of lives lived by a majority of these individuals during these extended years of living.

Medical science and technology certainly takes the credit for this increase in life span, but still, longevity will not suffice when it comes to worthwhile living when an individual suffers from poor health. Overall health and well-being are the primary requisites for a good quality of life, and for them to be enjoyed to the fullest, they are supposed to be an inherent aspect of living.

Much more so, they are to be kept to for a lifetime, and not just in a certain stage in life. Lifetime fitness is certainly a noble idea, and for it to come to a realization entails a lifelong commitment. Lifetime fitness does not necessarily mean that one has to adhere to a tedious and laborious obligation.

Oftentimes, to enjoy a state of overall health and well-being, lifetime fitness means engaging in a healthy lifestyle of adhering to a well-balanced diet, a regular exercise regimen and the augmentation of health supplements. More than that, a lifetime fitness regimen also entails the avoidance of disobliging habits such as substance abuse, smoking and drinking.

Although others may think that keeping to lifetime fitness is a dull and monotonous life, the fact is actually the contrary. When one is intent on keeping a lifetime fitness regimen, they are able to live with zest and vitality. As their system is not loaded with toxins, individuals who keep to lifetime fitness generally feel buoyant and are surrounded with positive energy.

They feel good and look good and are more apt to take pleasure in excellent mental and emotional health. As a consequence, they become more productive in their personal and social obligations and are able to enjoy fulfilling relationships. The benefits of adhering to lifetime fitness are all encompassing as good health and well-being is certainly the foremost element necessary to live life to the fullest.

The Center for Disease Control lists heart diseases, cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases and accidents as the top five annual causes of death in the United States. With the exception of accidental deaths, all the other leading causes of death could have been avoided if the populace was made aware of and engaged in a lifetime fitness regimen.

As a lifetime fitness program generally includes a well-balanced diet, one that is low in cholesterol, this serves to promote cardiovascular health. Thus with a lifetime fitness regimen, heart disease-related deaths and stroke can be prevented. The same can be said with a lifetime fitness regimen that excludes smoking. By no doubt, cancer and respiratory diseases can be done away with when one keeps to healthy habits.

According to a lifetime fitness report by the National Institute of Aging, merely 58% of Americans engage in a lifetime fitness program that includes leisure and vigorous activity. The rest are apparently wedged in sedentary lifestyles and failing health which means that they are unable to enjoy a state of fitness and health.

One may well imagine that such a life can be filled with the distress of ill health and an anxiety. With a lifetime fitness regimen, however, one is able to enjoy vitality thereby fueling their zest and enthusiasm for living.
