In some cases, hearing loss can be prevented, such as when it is noise induced. From this notion, it is only apparent that one can spare themselves of this tragic hearing dilemma if only they take proper measures. By far, noise induced hearing loss consist the largest group of hearing impairments.

It is a generally noisy world that we live in and it may not quite be surprising to see the prevalence of such a condition. But one always has the option and the capacity to make means to carefully take proper care of their hearing health by avoiding exposure to precarious situations, and that includes extreme noise.

Such is basically essential as the damage of hearing loss instigated by loud noise can be irreversible. There goes a crucial fact to take into account- noise induced hearing loss can be prevented but it can be irreversible. Such only proves how imperative precautionary measures are, especially pertaining to one’s hearing health.

But one may ask- what is loud enough and what is too loud which can lead to hearing loss? The answer is quite clear- the noise is too loud when it causes one discomfort. Noise which is too loud prevents one from having a good conversation, or perhaps one would need to shout in order to be heard.

Too much noise which can lead to hearing loss may even cause a ringing sensation in the ears. There has been a significant increase in the rate of individuals suffering from noise induced hearing loss in their teens, the 20’s and in their 30’s. This can be attributed to the popularity of devices such as portable cd players and mp3 players.

As much as these devices offer convenient entertainment, when used unwisely they can cause hearing loss. It is therefore necessary that children and adults as well as the elderly be informed on matters concerning hearing loss, hearing protection and hearing preservation. This may mean taking simple steps in preventing hearing loss such as staying out of loud environments, wearing hearing protection or simply turning down the volume.

When it comes to technicalities, noise which can induce hearing loss is 85 dB and above. Below such intensity, 60 dB is ideal for a good conversation while 30 dB is merely a whisper. Making the proper choices and vigilance can make a world of difference preventing hearing loss and preserving good hearing health which can only make one’s quality of life better.
