Blood Pressure And Heart Rate Monitoring

Tags: , , ,

Precautionary measures are always essential to ward off the sudden onslaught of a disease. This is especially true for those suffering from a heart condition or has a family history of it. Precautionary measures for such individuals generally include regular and careful monitoring of their blood pressure and heart rate.

Devices such as the sphygmomanometer and a heart rate monitor are deemed necessary to keep track of vital signs such as one’s blood pressure and heart rate. An individual with a cardiovascular condition may have their life dependent on devices such as the sphygmomanometer and the heart rate monitor. After all, such vital signs are indications of an individual’s cardiovascular condition.

Determining one’s blood pressure and heart rate can also determine whether an individual is suffering from high blood pressure, a stroke or a heart attack. Blood pressure and heart rate are among the first vital signs the nurse or the doctor checks upon a patient’s visit to the hospital. This only proves how crucial they are in establishing a patient’s overall condition.

For those with a cardiovascular condition, health maintenance and monitoring is imperative. However, rather than constantly visiting the doctor’s office, a cardiovascular patient can instead opt to keep a sphygmomanometer and a heart rate monitor at home. This would ensure that their blood pressure and heart rate are kept in check.

And in case a cardiovascular event arises, blood pressure and heart rate monitoring can greatly aid in its early detection and medical help can be sought. To check these patient’s vital signs, the traditional method is through the use of a sphygmomanometer. The term may sound a bit too complicated, but a sphygmomanometer is actually an all too common device.

It is that which the nurse cuffs in a patient’s arm and then pumps until it gets tighter and tighter. The sphygmomanometer has a gauge which gives a blood pressure reading and the stethoscope on the other hand is used to check for the heart rate. Using a sphygmomanometer for blood pressure reading and a stethoscope for heart rate monitoring generally takes time and experience to learn.

As much as such devices give accurate reading, the common individual may initially find it difficult to use them. But upgrades in the health field have made blood pressure and heart rate reading faster and more convenient. This is through novel devices such as electronic blood pressure and polar heart rate monitors.

To determine one’s blood pressure and heart rate, all an individual has to do is to attach a cuff and push a button. The electronic machine then does all the work, and quickly at that. The electronic machine gets a reading of the heart rate as well through an LCD display.

This electronic machine is ideal for home health care- for the elderly or for patients who have no experience in using the sphygmomanometer and the stethoscope. These updated monitors make blood pressure and heart rate monitoring an easy and simple task. As a result, patients are able to keep an eye on their vital signs without much hassle and consequently, they are able to carefully manage their condition.
