Ensuring Safety With A Home First Aid Kit
Tags: , ,

Anybody and everybody are prone to accidents. Accidents can happen any time and anywhere, and who knows what consequences they may instigate. It can vary from a minor scrape or bruise, to a major injury, and yes, death. One may be particularly very careful, but the possibility of an accident is still present. In such a case, it is best to take precautions or to be prepared. A mishap can happen even in the home, and tools and measures for instances like this are necessary. Among these tools and measures is a first aid kit. A first aid kit would not only come in handy, but it can make a significant difference, even .

With a home first aid kit, treatment can immediately be applied in case of an emergency. And early treatment can prove to be beneficial in so many ways. What should be kept in mind when keeping a first aid kit at home? For a home with small children, such a kit would be very helpful. It just might be there at the right time. Injury can happen to anyone at home. In such an instance, an older child would need to call for help. Inside the kit then should be a list of contact numbers, or a detailed emergency contact list.

Among theses are the phone numbers of community emergency services like 911. The same can be said with the fire department, the police, the local poison control center and numbers of the family doctor and pediatrician. It would also be helpful to include friends and relatives’ numbers, especially those who can help in a serious emergency. It is necessary to note as well whatever medications the family members are taking, or that they might be suffering from. The first aid kit should be regularly stocked, and the medicines kept up to date. There ought to be a list for this in the same manner.

When certain medications become expired, they must be discarded. All these are best noted on a list and kept in a plastic report cover inside the kit. What is the best container for first aid tools? One that is portable and made of durable material is recommended. It would be kept inside the home, so it’s not necessary that it is waterproof. Even an art box, or a plastic tackle box, or a tote bag, they can be excellent containers. It has to be kept out of reach of young children, yet accessible to older ones and adults. Necessary tools for it are triangular bandages and bandages of various sizes, adhesive tape and gauze.

The same can be said with tweezers, scissors, hydrogen peroxide, antihistamine, cough medicine, decongestant, antiseptic ointment and wipes, safety pins and instant activating cold packs. Along with this kit kept at home, it would also be very helpful if courses in first aid are taken. CPR must be learnt as well, and so is the Heimlich maneuver. It always pays to be prepared for the unexpected, so they say. That’s being practical, and it can be a tremendous advantage. When it comes to , not only is treatment necessary, but precaution and prevention as well.
