When Good Medicine Becomes Bad Medicine

Tags: , , ,

The practice of medicine is anchored on something very positive. It is about healing, providing cure and remedy to the sick and more importantly, it is about new lease on life for the dying. That is the essence of good medicine faced now with perils of bad medicine. Bad medicine that has proven to be a real snag in terms of health care and delivery of basic services to the people and communities in need.

Good medicine becomes bad medicine in cases where malpractices occur even in the best of nations with most modern in medical facilities. Bad medicine is not exclusive to struggling and developing nations for just like any noble endeavors, the medical field is most open to lawsuits and complaints. Bad medicine is the nightmare of every member of the medical profession translated foremost into malpractice, poor hospital equipment, weak medical staff, insufficient medical supplies, inefficient member of the medical team and a lot of more.

Ours is one big world of good medicine yet close by is the potential of bad medicine. Bad medicine happens to the best of health experts reason why as a matter of corporate responsibility and greater accountability, health policies have been redesigned to adopt to today's changing world. Whereas decades back it is acceptable to introduce a new cure minus extensive testings, nowadays the trial and error stage goes through an elaborate process that in effect also becomes bad medicine.

Instead of the remedy that can be extended to those in need, the process of introduction of these medical breakthroughs undergoes rigid procedure that at times, proves to be too late for those in need. Good medicine becomes bad medicine not by choice of the medical personnel involved. Good medicine becomes bad medicine by a matter of circumstance that is more pronounced in developing nations.

Bad medicine has a lot of faces and goes through a lot of phases. It does not happen overnight but more often a result of a system that took off with inadequate services for the real needs of the community to be served. Bad medicine is a gnawing concern of just about all governments regardless of whether health policies are in place or still drawn.

Malpractice for instance causes much more than the battle between the physician and patient for it involves as well the entire health care facility. Meantime, the intent to provide cure to that patient was overtaken by mis-events that at times were really beyond the control of the medical professional involved.

Good medicine and bad medicine. It happens even to the best of nations and best of communities. It is because of bad medicine that trusts are broken and faith are destroyed. Again, medicine per se connotes something positive so it is doubly catastrophic when bad medicine comes in and wrecks havoc to that noble mission to serve and heal.

Again, bad medicine is the nightmare of every member of the medical profession translated foremost into malpractice, poor hospital equipment, weak medical staff, insufficient medical supplies, inefficient member of the medical team and a lot of more. With a collective effort though, bad medicine can still be good medicine.
