Beneath The Public Issues About Transcendental Meditation

Tags: , , ,

A majority of those who put interest in mind and spiritual pursuits may be all too familiar with transcendental meditation. Transcendental meditation is one of the countless meditation techniques that have developed throughout the ages and this specific meditation technique was founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, otherwise known as the “giggling guru” due to his jovial, giggling disposition during interviews.

Although Maharishi Mahesh Yogi does not sport an extremely contemplative public persona like other spiritual adepts, he did gain a significant following. Transcendental meditation is so much more like the other meditation methods, however it is one that is wrapped in questionable publicity claims and stunts. An individual goes about with transcendental meditation without concentrating or focusing on anything and it supposedly works even without one believing that it does.

Adherents of transcendental meditation claim that through this technique, they are able to achieve Transcendental Consciousness in which the mind transcends all mental actions with heightened restful awareness. Those who advocate transcendental meditation further claim that proven scientific studies indicated that this state of mind enhances creativity and learning, increases the IQ and promotes moral functioning and better neurological processes.

Transcendental meditation is said to free the mind and body from their inhibitions and release all suppressed inherent capabilities which are vital in leading a liberated life. This meditation technique is referred to as the “Science of Creative Intelligence” which is incidentally now a degree offered at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa.

Owing to this fact and the methods and techniques involved, transcendental meditation is often mistaken as a cult or a religion. The Maharishi University boasts of delivering a “broad range of academic disciplines for successful management of all fields of life” but those who are opposed to the meditation practice point out that several beauty products are sold within the premises of the university for individuals who want to improve their body as much as their mind.

Transcendental meditation has been highly controversial as well due to the claim of some of its followers that they are able to possess paranormal and supernatural abilities such as being invisible. Furthermore, there have been declarations that through this meditation practice, flying or levitating becomes possible. To date, these claims have however remained unproven yet have been one of the most talked about topics on the subject.

Transcendental meditation remains to be one of the most popular and effective meditation practices. As much as it is surrounded with contentious and dubious issues, one can still get the best out of this meditation practice if an individual finds that it is most suitable for them. The mechanics of transcendental meditation involve the chanting of a mantra which is the name of a Hindu god and it merely requires a two 20-minute a day spent in a state of restful awareness.

As transcendental meditation is highly popular, it is anticipated that is hemmed with controversies and opposition. However, for those who remain to be avid adherents of transcendental meditation, such issues are regarded as immaterial.
