One of the most complex and intricate familial relationships is that of dad and son. It is either that a dad and son relationship is the best of its kind, or it can be a struggle. Male bonding for dad and son can be cultivated and strengthened. This is when dad takes the time and realizes how crucial his role is.
Dad is supposedly the head of the family who knows what’s best for his son. Apparently, dad is the one with the authority. When dad reaches out to his son for a solid dad and son bonding, it can make a world of difference. Dad is the immediate masculine model that his son looks up to.

A dad and son relationship can serve as the foundation for a son until he grows to be an adult. But as dad has more authority, it is within his means to initiate effort in relating to his son. This is especially true during the teenage and adolescent years when the son is at a crossroads.
This stage can be crucial to the son. By this time, the son can be going through issues about his identity, his masculinity and his peers. He can be at a loss as to what his role really is as a man and as a member of the society. This is where a solid dad and son relationship can come to the rescue.
As dad has more experiences and knowledge than his son, he can provide the latter with guidelines. But essential for a healthy and profound dad and son relationship is a confident dad. It is dad who steers the relationship in the right direction. Otherwise, the dad and son relationship will drown amidst the waves of personal issues, conflicts and misunderstandings.
Dad has to be confident about his role as a father and as a man. Integral to a son’s masculinity is the example, rules and guidance set by dad. Dad must then be principled and have integrity to provide a noteworthy example to his son. Dad and son bonding also entails constant communication.
Communication between dad and son must be constant in terms of quality and not in quantity. In this relationship, dad should make his son aware that he is open for communication. A dad and son relationship is much more different than that of mom and daughter. In the latter case, it is easier for mom to reach out to her daughter and prompt her daughter to communicate.
Communication can be much more easier between two females. But with dad and son, it can be difficult to express emotions. More so on the son’s part where intimate talks can be awkward. In this sense, dad should not force his son to immediately open up. In a dad and son relationship, dad should be mindful and observant.
He must not force nor expect his son to open up so easily. Rather, he should constantly keep his son company. Through dad and son bonding with little things, the son can then feel comfortable with his dad. It is then that the ice between the two can be broken and trust has developed.
In this manner, the dad and son relationship provides an anchor to a son in weathering the storms of living and of being a man.
