Taboo can be that very word to describe mental disorders. Both as a subject and as a topic. And why is this so? Advocates say it is primarily because of ignorance on mental disorders, reason why there is that much unspoken fear as if it is outrightly contagious. As a subject, mental disorders is never really popular nor light to handle.
Impression that generally goes is that it is either you are an expert on the subject reason why it is being discussed or you or someone close to you is at the receiving end of said discussion. However it may be, mental disorders are rarely spoken about much less embraced natural.

Yet consider this study – these disorders have afflicted a greater number of the world’s populace than the general public cared to think. Translated into numbers, statistics state that about one in every three persons could be a potential sufferer of at least one of the established kinds of mental disorders.
One out of three - that is how common and prevalent it is in today’s world. Mental disorders per se is not the enemy though. What brings one to the brink of these disorders are the real enemies of the society and many communities faced with increased stresses in life and confronted with disasters either man-made or brought by nature.
Communities caught in raging war for instance are easy preys for mental disorders. And those societies too embroiled in a fight triggered by disunity and discontent. Families here are exposed to highly stressful conditions that practically feed the self to fall victims to mental disorders lurking on the side. From voices heard to make believe friends or enemies, what brings mental disorders close to home are conditions surrounding our daily lives.
One study said these disorders can be as harmless as someone taking unnecessary steps to keep the room clean. Yet there are others too that would resort to violent means in the same situation. Either way, mental disorders are best treated and managed at the earliest time and stage and with the help of a trained professional.
The first step here though is to openly discuss the disorders feared to be present if only to have the right help available. It is hard as it is to deal with mental disorders yet hardest when one is confronted with a distant and seemingly aloof support group. When this happens, the disorders felt worsens with the sufferer isolated and drawn farther away from the reality that help is available.
Issues relating to mental disorders are real issues that you or someone you know can face. It is not anybody’s fault that these disorders are there in our midst but it becomes someone’s fault when handled wrongly. Mental disorders are not contagious, only the negative energy and attitude towards it are.
Mental disorders should not be taboo either. Only those who refused to acknowledge it should be. Up close up front with the disorders. Everybody’s business in staying truly fit and truly healthy.
