It may not be surprising that stress has become a prevalent issue that a majority has to contend with. In fact, with the current hurried and harried lifestyle that demands so much of an individual’s time, effort and energy, stress has become a way of living. Due to social and personal issues that beset more and more individuals, it may seem like their energy is constantly drained which consequently affects their mood and health as well as their relationships and their normal functioning. Stress, as much as it has become a common by-word may not at all be easy to deal with.

As stress may have become inherent to a majority, they may be unable to recognize which can actually be warning signals that medical attention be sought immediately. When an individual neglects symptoms of stress that gradually develop and then result into a sudden burn out or breakdown, the circumstance may come to the point of getting out of hand. It is therefore essential that one engages in stress relief measures or else be wary about symptoms of stress and deal with them accordingly. One must take time for self-awareness and introspection when it comes to identifying symptoms of stress, especially when they are beset with feelings of anxiety, depression and guilt.



They may be signs that one is about to blow off their handle. Worry and tension may also become overwhelming and these are symptoms of stress that ought to be given due attention. Other symptoms of stress which can be debilitating are exhaustion, mood swings and lack of concentration. Lack of self-esteem also becomes one of the prevailing . To top it all, symptoms of stress may come to the point of affecting one’s mental health leading to thoughts of suicide and paranoia. Accompanying these mental and emotional symptoms of stress are physical manifestations as well such as palpitations and tightness in the chest.

Further physical symptoms of stress which one needs to be keen on distinguishing are difficulty in breathing, muscle tension and back aches. Sweating, indigestion and nausea are symptoms of stress as well which an individual must take time to notice. Weight loss or weight gain, frequent illness and constantly being tired are symptoms of stress which can be vague, and one may need to be meticulous in identifying them. It must however be taken into account that an individual should see their doctor to determine whether the symptoms of stress experienced are physical or psychological in nature as there are cases when such symptoms may be indications of a low immune system which in turn causes an individual stress and develop other illnesses.

It is also important to find out whether emotional symptoms such as depression or anxiety are stress related as well as they can also mask other conditions. It is only essential that one takes time to identify and find means to manage, alleviate and address them as stress can take its toll on an individual’s entire system resulting in a wide range of potentially distressing physical, mental and emotional conditions.
