Vitamins And Minerals: The Body’s Essential Fuel

Tags: , , ,

Ours is an era which is often more concerned on cosmetic advantages rather than health rewards. Such is why it is rather not surprising that a majority aim to lose weight to look good rather than stay healthy. Oftentimes, those who engage in weight loss for this reason tend to do so through unhealthy means which undoubtedly increases their health risks.

A sizeable percentage is posed in increased health risks not just from malnutrition but more alarmingly from obesity. Almost always individuals have the tendency to put more significance on fast meal and what tastes good rather than what is essential, healthy and nutritious. It has been constantly advocated that the body must be sufficiently nourished to stay in optimum health.

The health sector, aware of the inability of the everyday diet to provide the necessary vitamins and minerals for the body, has encouraged the manufacture of vitamin and mineral supplements. Vitamins and minerals are indispensable to efficient bodily functions as gasoline is to a car. If an individual is intent on sustaining life and longevity, then they must ensure that they are well nourished with vitamins and minerals.

Among many other things, vitamins and minerals aid in proper food digestion, burning of energy, keeping the skin healthy, growing hair, re-building muscle fibers and strengthening the cells. Our bodies are basically made up of vitamins and minerals, and it is only vital that individuals have a sufficient daily intake of them.

Vitamins and minerals are regarded as micronutrients. By micronutrients, it means that they are needed by the body in small amounts. Micronutrients are to be differentiated from macronutrients in that the latter is needed in larger amounts such as fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Aside from being micronutrients, vitamins and minerals are considered as co-enzymes as well as they aid in the body enzymes’ function to sustain the body’s ability to carry out daily activities efficiently.

Vitamins and minerals boost the body’s defenses against sickness and aid in speedy and better healing and recovery. Vitamins and minerals are also essential in building strong bones and muscles. A boosted immune system which is beneficial for the organs, the muscles and the blood is one of the rewards of sufficient nourishment of vitamins and minerals.

The major vitamins are generally categorized as water- soluble and oil-soluble vitamins. Water soluble vitamins such as Vitamins B and C are to be taken daily as they are not stored in the body and are easily excreted. Vitamins A, D, E and K on the other hand are oil soluble vitamins which are stored longer in the liver and the body’s fatty tissues.

Both water and oil soluble vitamins are essential for the body to function efficiently. Vitamins and minerals are essential in providing the body with physical and mental energy. By no doubt, vitamins and minerals are two of the basic requisites for optimum nutrition which can provide an individual with overall health which is a principal element for well-being.

Much of the sluggishness and lethargy caused by ill health are brought about by deficient vitamins and minerals in the body. It is therefore necessary that an individual must ensure that their body must have abundant supplies of vitamins and minerals which will keep them on the go and guarantee that their health is safeguarded.

For sufficient nourishment of vitamins and minerals, one can resort to the augmentation of dietary supplements as the diet almost often will not suffice.
