Behind Abdominal Pain, And Its Treatments

Tags: , , ,

At some points, a large percentage of individuals may have experienced abdominal pain. As the name suggests, abdominal pain is pain arising from the abdomen, referred to as the belly or the stomach region. Anatomically, the abdomen is bounded by the lower margin of the ribs on the upper part, the flanks on each side and the pelvic bone on the lower portion.

There are many possible reasons as to why there is an onset of abdominal pain, its symptoms vary and treatments as well are diverse- usually dependent on one’s age, sex, cause and symptoms. In some cases, abdominal pain is negligible or may not require serious medical attention, and some cases are otherwise.

Abdominal pain can be alarming and may be associated with the body’s major organs. One can be perplexed about the nature of abdominal pain at times. In some instances it can be so severe, but not consequential at all. The pain can be stabbing, sharp, dull, cramp-like, knife-like or boring.

There are many possible sorts of manifestation of abdominal pain. As for the causes in which the treatment is mainly dependent, they are varied as well. For instance, it can be caused by inflammations of organs and components within the abdomen, such as appendicitis or diverticulitis. The onset of the pain can be due to stretching or distention of an organ or loss of blood supply to an organ as well.

A woman may experience abdominal pain when she has a twisted ovarian cyst. And when a woman might be pregnant, severe pain can arise coming from the lower left or right abdomen but without vomiting or fever. A man on the other hand, may have testicular torsion with a twisted testis in which abdominal pain can be instigated.

Along with pain in the abdomen, some individuals may have constipation or lose stool and may urgently need to move bowels. Others experience an alternation of both constipation and diarrhea. After a large meal, severe pain can flare up starting from the upper abdomen and spreading on to the sides and the back.

At times, such sort of pain may occur 6 to 12 hours after an episode of heavy drinking. Excessive gas and lactose intolerance can be precursors of abdominal pain as well. So are Gardia Lamblia and hernia. The pain is also common with heartburn and indigestion. Pancreatic cancer, ovarian cysts and urinary tract infections can cause different manifestations of abdominal pain.

For relief of its symptoms, medications may be required. Antacids can be resorted to for pain which occurs high up in the abdomen after meals, especially if accompanied by heartburn and indigestion. To prevent the onset of such pain, it may be best to avoid citrus fruits, fried or greasy and high-fat foods, tomato products, carbonated and caffeinated drinks as well as alcohol.

For abdominal pain due to constipation, the doctor may recommend fiber supplements or laxatives. Medications for diarrhea and tranquilizers for calming down can also be a recourse for abdominal pain treatment. Drugs which control colon muscle spasms can also reduce the pain.
