Hip pain is generally said to be instigated by injuries or degenerative diseases. Finding a suitable treatment for hip pain often requires that one determines the real cause and deal with it accordingly. Such a means to relieve hip pain is more preferable than masking the symptoms alone and to apply such a measure, it may be sensible that an individual gains thorough knowledge as to the nature and causes of hip pain.

One of the most common reasons for hip pain is a tribulation of aging called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a disease which strikes the joints and is a prevalent dilemma among individuals aging 50 and beyond. The anticipated wear and tear of the hip joints which go with aging is one of the precursors of hip pain and there are cases in which the condition can be so debilitating that one walks with a limp.

As hip pain due to osteoarthritis can potentially become severe and conservative treatments become ineffective, hip replacement surgery may be recommended. A condition called osteonecrosis wherein there is restricted blood flow a certain area in the body can also lead to hip pain. The condition is known to result from osteonecrosis when the hip bone does not receive enough blood flow.

Under such circumstances, hip pain arises as the cells diminish causing the collapse of the hip bone. Hip bursitis or otherwise known as trochanteric bursitis is also one of the instigators of hip pain, especially among athletes. Such a condition occurs when there is an inflammation of the bursa sacs in the hips typically due to running.

Other than osteoarthritis, another prevailing cause for hip pain among the elderly is hip fractures. Hip fractures are often a result of falls, and in cases wherein the hips are broken, surgery may be required. A surgical procedure to address hip pain of this nature involves the repair of the broken bone/s with metal plates or screws or otherwise the damaged bone will be replaced altogether.

Hip fractures and its associated hip pain can come to the point of being incapacitating and less than 50% of those who have had suffered from such injury are able to regain their facility for carrying out high level activities.
