Aches and pains are apt to beset the majority every now and then. As much as they can be excruciating, they are ailments and conditions everybody has to bear with. Countless factors of modern living contribute to aches and pains. They are in fact too many to mention. But many may have experienced them.
Take the case of headaches. A headache may sound all too simple. But there are actually many forms of headaches. They are stress or tension headaches, migraine headaches or cluster headaches to name a few. From the mere mention of it, most people don’t like the word “headache”. Many are well aware that it can be a very unpleasant experience.

 There are people who may suffer from headaches from time to time. But do they know what kind of headaches they are? Perhaps they could be migraine headaches. How does one know they are suffering from migraine headaches? There are some distinctive characteristics which differentiate migraine headaches from all the other forms of headaches.
This article aims to shed light on them. For one thing, migraine headaches are often one-sided. It means that pain may only be felt on one side of the head. Migraine headaches’ pain often manifest on the temple area. Or it could be behind one of the eyes or ears.
Migraine headaches can come to the point of being severe. At times, they can be disabling. One of the most common symptoms of migraine headaches is nausea. The same can be said with vomiting and sensitivity to light. Twenty percent of patients suffering from migraine headaches experience an aura. An aura is actually a disturbance in vision.
It consists of bright blinking colored lights moving across one’s field of vision. There are people who experience chronic migraine headaches. Chronic migraine headaches often have their onslaughts once or twice a month. In some instances, though, migraine headaches can be a problem which besets a person once or twice a week.
Migraine headaches affect people from the ages of 15 to 55. And they are more apt to bother women than men. Migraine headaches are less common than tension headaches. Nevertheless, they affect 30 or 40 million of Americans. In a rough estimate, 75% of all headaches are tension headaches. What on the other hand characterizes tension headaches? Tension headaches are often manifested by dull pain which besets the entire head.
Migraine headaches on the other hand are characterized by a localized throbbing pain. This goes to say that tension headaches are a constant dull pain all over the head. As for migraines, they are pain of the throbbing sort, like the beating of the heart. It is best to consult the doctor for treatment of migraines.
Pain killers or other pharmaceutical drugs may be prescribed. These conventional treatments can offer immediate relief although there may be side effects. Equally effective can be alternative treatments. For these, one can research online or better yet ask an alternative healthcare practitioner. Migraine headaches can be very difficult to live with.
But as long as one takes the time and effort, treatment and remedies can be at hand.
