As much as the pillars of good health which are adherence to a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen may seem unswerving, it can get wobbly at times especially in this age wherein the diet is consisted of processed foods and a majority if urban dwellers are wedged to sedentary office jobs.
It is further aggravated by the high stress conditions in which a large proportion of the population are exposed to. Under these circumstances, it is not surprising that the populace of the ill and enervated is constantly increasing. The health industry is posed with the dilemma of not only finding the means to cure illnesses but in preventing them as well.

Every individual needs sufficient amounts of nutrients in the body to be in optimum health, but due to food processing and the depletion of nutrients from the soil and harvested products, the nutrients from the diet may no longer suffice.

Tremendous benefits are to be gained from dietary supplements as they can reduce health care costs by billions of dollars.
Preventive self care through dietary supplements is now widely accepted with the skyrocketing costs of health care and health insurance. Dietary supplements abundant in Vitamin C provide cellular antioxidants that may reduce the development of cardiovascular diseases and some cancers. Vitamin A dietary supplements deliver benefits to the mucous membranes and the skin.
Dietary supplements with Omega 3 fatty acids promote cardiovascular functions and the nervous system. Vitamin E reduces the production of free radicals and reduces the risks for diabetes and cancer. Co-enzyme Q10 in dietary supplements helps generate energy for metabolism while selenium is an anti-aging nutrient that helps to protect against prostate cancer.
It is to be noted, however, that dietary supplements are just that – supplements. They are not to be resorted alone for nutrient nourishment for the body but they serve to compensate for the nutrients that are lacking in the diet. It is still best that an individual gets a hefty amount of nutrients from a healthy diet boosted by regular exercise and an obliging lifestyle.
The pillars of good health will perennially remain with dietary supplements to help them prevail.
