Harmless, yes it is, but better still not to catch it. After all, pink eye can be discomforting. What to do to avoid contracting pink eye? As earlier mentioned, one has to take precautions especially during the pink eye season. This may mean washing the hands thoroughly every so often.

And of course, avoiding contact with somebody who has pink eye. What are the symptoms of this eye disease which is also known as conjunctivitis? For one thing, there would be redness or a pinkish color appearing on the white of the eye. This is generally the first symptom of conjunctivitis.

Then one may also experience a “swollen eyelid” appearance. This means that there is puffiness surrounding in their eyelids. Excessive discharge may also come out from the eyes. Or else there would be crust around the edges of the eyes. When one has conjunctivitis, watering or tearing of the eye may also manifest.

How does one feel when they have acquired this eye disease? One may experience sensitivity to light. There may also be a slight tingling pain in the eyes. A person may also begin to feel like there’s a foreign object caught in their eyes. Other than these, the eyes may also become itchy or irritated.

When one has conjunctivitis, they may have to suffer a week till it gets better. Symptoms of the disease generally become apparent in 24-74 hours after one has contracted the virus. It does take a while till the symptoms show and it is better that they are treated upon the earliest onset.

The symptoms of conjunctivitis can also be alleviated. For one thing, one can use a warm washcloth to wipe the eyes. This would alleviate the eye discomfort and cleanse the eyes of discharge. As mentioned, one should constantly wash their hands to avoid spreading the infection. When one has this eye disease, it’s also best that they keep their hands to themselves.

That way, they won’t have to experience unpleasant symptoms of conjunctivitis. It takes being extra careful when one suffers from this eye disease. There are also eye drops and ointments which can aid in discomforting symptoms. When it’s peak season for conjunctivitis and other infectious diseases, one has to always be on guard.

That way not only discomfort can be prevented, but complications as well. These are measures for maintaining good health.
