Motorcycle Sun Glasses: Riding With Style And Safety

Tags: , , ,

One of the most essential accessories of a motorcycle owner or even just an occasional rider is a pair of motorcycle sun glasses. Often, the case is that avid motorcycle riders opt to wear sun glasses underneath their goggles and visors. This could greatly aid in reducing glare, light reflection, UV light protection and depth perception.

State laws often require that riders wear their visors and goggles with a tint below a certain percentage. By law, 50% is the darkest tint allowed otherwise if the visor or goggle is too dark, it would be deemed illegal. Owing to this, a large number of riders wear sun glasses beneath their visors and goggles which enhance their vision and make their riding more comfortable.

There are several factors to take into account before a motorcycle rider decides to buy a pair of motorcycle sun glasses. When shopping for a pair of motorcycle sun glasses, it is sensible that one chooses those which are approved by the American National Institute Standard or ANSI. If a pair of motorcycle sun glasses are ANSI-approved, it basically means that the sun glasses have undergone testing and are capable of protecting the rider’s eyes from the most extreme conditions.

The rider must also ensure that the sun glasses have straight arms, otherwise known as the “skull fit”. A skull fit allows the rider to put on and take off the sun glasses with ease when wearing a helmet. For those needing prescription motorcycle glasses, it is best that advice is sought from the doctor as to which brand and style would suit them best.

In most cases, the doctor would recommend UV motorcycle glasses which protect the eyes from harmful UV rays which can cause serious eye problems. Lens color is also an important consideration when choosing sun glasses for riding. For night riding, the most suited are sun glasses with clear lenses as they do not distort color.

Other than that clear lens motorcycle sun glasses which are mirrored also reflect the headlights of oncoming vehicles. For daytime riding, dark smoked lenses are ideal as they provide intensive glare protection. For cloudy days and foggy situations, the best choice would be sun glasses with yellow lenses as they allow for depth perception in instances when there is low visibility.

The ultimate solution, however are red and blue lenses for motorcycle glasses as they can cater to all the problems of glare, light reflection and depth perception. Then there is also the option for a rider whether to buy sun glasses with or without polarized lenses. A majority generally prefer sun glasses with polarized lenses and these sort of lenses minimize the glare which can cause problems with vision while riding.

Polarized lenses generally allow a much more comfortable ride as they enable the rider to do away with eye strain.
