Cervical Cancer And Ways To Deal With It

Tags: , , ,

Much is to be said about the consequences of having multiple sexual partners. The risks are undoubtedly threatening to the point of being deadly. Sexually transmitted diseases pose a tremendous dilemma to those who have contracted it. Other than the stigma involved, STD can be an excruciating predicament to get caught in.

This is especially true of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a disease affecting women, and often it strikes in the ages of 40 and above. The human papilloma virus or HPV is the main culprit behind cervical cancer. HPV can be transmitted through sexual contact. Over a period of time, generally years, contraction of HPV can lead to the formation of cancerous cells.

These cancerous cells can wreak havoc on the cervix thus leading to cervical cancer. As HPV is sexually transmitted, a woman is put to higher risks of acquiring it by having multiple sexual partners. As much as the body’s natural anti-bodies are the best guard against HPV, certain factors can lead to the weakening of the immune system.

This can then potentially lead to the development of cervical cancer. It only serves to show that other than adhering to safe sex measures, one should also guard their immune system. A healthy lifestyle of a good diet, regular exercise and supplementation can augment as the best bet against cervical cancer.

When one has contracted HPV and consequently develops cervical cancer, the following symptoms may manifest: pelvic pain or pain during intercourse, increased frequency of urination and unexpected bleeding or vaginal discharge. The occurrence of such symptoms does not necessarily imply that one has cervical cancer. They only suggest a possibility, and this may entail a woman to undergo cervical tests.

Early detection of cervical cancer can go a long way towards the final verdict of the disease. Just like any forms of cancer, cervical cancer is best detected and treated in the early stages. Such measures can give way to increased chances of successful treatment and remission. Detecting cervical cancer is often done through regular or routine screening tests.

The pap test or the pap smear test is often the best means of detecting cancer cells in the cervix. The pap smear test is generally done by scraping off cells from the cervix for microscopic examination. The pap smear test is not at all painful. It is in fact recommended that a woman of reproductive age have a pap smear test regularly.

By far, pap tests are regarded as the best means for early cervical cancer detection and intervention. Pap tests may be inaccurate at times, though. When other symptoms strongly suggest cervical cancer, it is then that a woman may need to go through another round of cervical tests. Treatment for cervical cancer is best employed and is most effective in the early stages.

Surgery for removal of the ovaries, the uterus and the fallopian tubes may be necessitated. Other than that, a woman can also undergo chemotherapy and radiation to eliminate invading cancer cells. Through preventive measures and early detection and treatment, one can be spared from the distressing consequences of cervical cancer.
