Hatha Yoga, the “vehicle of the soul,” is the most commonly practiced type of yoga in western civilizations. A 5,000 year-old system that is used to improve the health of your body, mind and spirit, it has stretching exercises, breathing techniques and mental concentration combined altogether. Hatha Yoga was derived from "ha," that meant sun, and "tha," meaning moon, and both put together meant unity of the opposites.
As such, represented are opposing energies of hot and cold, fire and water like ying and yang, male and female, positive and negative. Hatha Yoga pushes for the balance through physical exercises or asanas, controlled breathing or pranayama and relaxation or meditiation.
