Hormonal Fluctuations And Adult Acne

Tags: , ,

Many may have been aware that the onset of acne is prevalent during adolescence and the teenage years. Due to significant hormonal changes in this transition period, acne breakouts often occur which can be distressing. Acne is a blemish to the skin, and certainly nobody wants their appearance to be tainted. During adolescence when a teenager’s self-esteem can be fragile, acne can pose a significant dilemma. As much as a teenager may long for the day when they finally become an adult so as to be free from acne, that long awaited liberation from acne may not necessarily come to pass as there is such thing as which may come at the end of the teenage road.

Adult acne besets individuals between the ages of 25 to 45 years old. As much as there are hormonal alterations during adolescence, such phenomenon is experienced by adults, too. And so, adult acne can occur. Stress is often regarded as one of the main precursors of adult acne. By no doubt, hormones fluctuate when an individual goes through high stress conditions, thus, an adult can experience acne breakouts. Often, adult acne is characterized by what is called acne rosecea in which an adult would suffer from painful pus-filled blisters on the face. As much as adults are in dire search for a treatment for this sort of adult acne, the search can be a frustrating one.

Experts generally recommend stress relief to address adult acne, thus it may be sensible that an individual find measures for relaxation and alleviation from stress. The drawback however is that stress and can be entangled in a vicious cycle. Adult acne can be so severe that it can cause stress, and the stress can be so overwhelming that it can cause adult acne breakouts. The underlying culprits behind adult acne are the hormones and the maturation of the oil glands. For instance, in males, fluctuations in the male hormone androgen and excessive production of oil from the glands can clog the hair follicles.

Under these circumstances, there is then a flourishing of acne causing bacteria which cause the manifestation of acne. For women, life changing events which cause significant hormonal changes such as pregnancy and menopause can cause the onset of acne. The same can be said with the use of birth control pills. Birth control pills generally contain hormone-altering components within them which can make them be effective in treating acne, but this measure may take thorough consideration as the treatment they offer is temporary and acne breakouts become even worse once an individual ceases to use them. Adult acne is generally regarded as an indication of a hormonal problem during adulthood and although it may be difficult to find means to accurately address the condition, there are certain measures that can be taken to prevent and put a limit to acne breakouts.

One of the recommended means to deal with adult acne is to keep to proper facial hygiene so as to prevent facial skin from being too oily. For women, adult acne can be prevented by removing make-up thoroughly. It may also be sensible for an individual to watch what they eat so as to put the onset of adult acne in check. Limiting caffeine, sugar and fat intake may be helpful. Finally, an individual can also resort to the wide assortment of acne products available in the market for treatment with the aid of a medical professional’s opinion.
