Aging is bound to happen to everybody in its own due time. Upon its approach, many people may become anxious. There is a slowing down of the body and its processes as the aging process takes place. “Growing old” as it is called, and for some it causes much concern. When somebody says a person is “growing old”, it is associated with a gradual disability due to physiological dysfunctioning. The modern concept of growing old is that it can be contended with with medical action. But how does the aging process take place, or what really causes it? The most influencing factors in the aging process are a person’s lifestyle and genetics.

By genetics, it means the end part of the chromosome, or the telomer shortens. The shortening of the telomer is largely dependent on how the person lives. In a person’s lifestyle, physical activity and calorie intake play a crucial role in the speeding up or slowing down of the aging process. If you have abundant intake of calories, especially through unhealthy eating, it is said that you will age faster. Much has been said about healthy eating and having controlled intake of calories. This will greatly aid in lengthening your age as well as help ward off the onset of diseases.
The real anti aging therapy then is to eat healthily and engage in physical activity. Again the basics of good health- regular exercises and a healthy diet. This fundamental health measure has been proven to be vital in fighting the effects of the years, and that includes lessening the chances of you suffering from threatening diseases. But yet, there is a common perception of “anti-aging” which continues to expand. When ads and commercials say they have products which can make you “stay young”, it merely means keeping the skin smooth and maintaining the color of your hair. There are other and more important requirements to be fulfilled in a real anti aging therapy. First, it has to be able to modify the process down to the cells and the biochemical system. Second, it must be able to sustain good health and reduce the likelihood of disability. And finally, staying young doesn’t only improve the external appearance, or merely what’s on the outside. This is what products in the market simply do nowadays – focus on the exterior, or simply mask the symptoms. More often, they don’t deal with the real cause. Experts do not agree with this concept of anti-aging, nor does the FDA in the US approve of such products as the best means for addressing “growing old dilemmas”. Should these products be considered as real anti-aging therapy products? The answer is NO, because all they do is mask the symptoms and results are not likely to last long. For such products to be effective, they have to be coupled with a healthy lifestyle. There has been a long debate and controversy regarding this subject. Researches have been going on in the scientific society to slow down the effects of the years. But a medical technology has yet to be invented to do such a purpose correctly and accurately.
