Planning A Detox Diet - Here's What You Should Know
Proper nutrition is key to
being well and having a
healthy body so you can
lose the weight and keep
it off.
See how here.
You can become fit and
healthy and totally enjoy
getting there.
************************************************************
When you hear the word
toxins you picture evil little
microscopic "things" for
want of a better word, that
are embossed with the
skull and crossbones as
a warning that they are
dangerous to you and
should be removed as
quickly as possible.
So when you hear that you
can get rid of these toxins
by going on a detox diet,
well of course you should
do that because as we all
know, toxins are bad for you?
Well . . .
. . . maybe . . .
. . . maybe not . . .
No I'm not saying toxins are
good for you.
Most definitely toxins are bad
for your body.
What I am ambivalent about
is the effect of detox diets
and how they can affect
your body.
************************************************************
In a nutshell, a Detox Diet,
also called a cleansing diet,
supposedly will remove the
toxins and poisons that
accumulate in your body.
The belief is that as you go
about our daily routine, you
are being constantly exposed
to toxins and chemicals at
your work and at home.
Toxins enter your body
through the air that you
breathe and the food and
water you ingest.
This is because in this modern
age our foods are processed
and we also eat a lot more
sugars and non-healthy fats
than ever before.
Then there's alcohol, tobacco,
and drugs - all of which can
screw up your body's natural
detoxification process.
In a detox diet you eat pure
and natural foods that will
aid the function of the lymph,
kidneys, and liver so that
your body detoxifies better.
It's a short-term diet that:
Helps lessen the amount
of chemicals you ingest.
Emphasizes foods that
provide the vitamins,
nutrients, and antioxidants
that your body needs for
detoxification.
Contains foods that draws
out and eliminate the toxins
by increasing the frequency
of your bowel movements
and urination.
And the foods that you eat
are typically organic so that
there are no pesticides
or fungicides.
Whole unprocessed foods
such as grains, nuts, and
seeds, along with fruits and
vegetables to give your body
the nutrients it needs.
And drinking lots of water
because as we all know
water is the best cleanser
there is.
************************************************************
However, there are those that
say you don't need Detox diets.
And they may have a point.
After all, your body can detoxify
itself naturally and has been
doing so as long as you have
been alive.
At the same time there's no
evidence that detox diets work.
Even those testimonials of
improvements in health after
following a Detox Diet can be
attributed to the placebo effect -
wherein people believe that
since what they are doing is
beneficial to them they feel
and get better because of it,
even when nothing has
happened.
At the same time if a Detox
diet is done improperly or
for too long, it may result
in nutrient deficiencies which
can then be harmful to your
body's ability to repair itself.
I highly recommend you
consult a qualified health
professional and/or medical
doctor first before you
undergo a Detox diet or
any type of diet for that
matter.
