Continued research and widened studies on saw better acceptance in the 80s than any other years before that. With these came the recognition of three more common eating disorders prevalent to millions worldwide and these are eating disorders in anorexia, over-eating and bulimia. As now advised by health advocates, earliest detection and earliest intervention of the eating disorders suspected is necessary if only to bring earliest treatment and corresponding management. Eating disorders have also become so common that support groups and support centers have now materialized, created purposely for the management of the unfortunate disease, now needed even in the most dire of nations and governments.

Incidents of the disorders have now made converts in a lot of sectors as health advocates increase with talks against the perils of eating disorders in the forefront of its campaign. What we know now is that for to be better understood, information dissemination must be widened and a conscious effort to continuously reach out to the public must be maintained. Eating disorders such as anorexia, over-eating and bulimia have created a silent fear amongst many however it is interesting to note that most often than not, the silent fear is misplaced. Yes, eating disorders are serious disorders that can be fatal if left untreated, poorly managed and badly handled.

Treatment, management and handling that can only happen with the right approaches and essential information both on the disorder itself and understanding of the sufferer. But the disorders are not contagious per se however if allowed to flourish or exist in a seemingly controlled atmosphere can cause harm and even worse effect on the sufferer’s family or loved one. Eating disorders are primarily problems dealing with one’s mental health condition. It can affect as many as the entire family or leave a devastating impact on the life of one family member closest to the sufferer. In that context, these disorders have sadly become ‘contagious.’ So as it is, it definitely does not help to have little or misplaced understanding on eating disorders.

The different faces and phases of it must be clearly seen on what it is so as to have the matching approach. It is important that from the earliest stage, the seriousness of eating disorders must be known, how from a mental health condition it can lead to a medical health condition. The disorders appear to start innocently. A family member becomes so suddenly vain on her physical appearance. A loved one so suddenly thinks of himself overweight. A friend so suddenly can not stop eating then not stop feeling guilty for doing so. These are early phases of eating disorders that you cannot affort to disregard.

Do take time to listen and see those incidents as possible advent of serious disorders. Again, are serious disorders that can be fatal if left untreated, poorly managed and badly handled. Try hardest to recognize the signs. Then seek help of trained professionals and health experts. Even the advent of the world wide web has made seeking help easier and practically at your fingertips so grab that to your advantage. There are also a lot of helpful web sites that provide linkages to support groups and access to natural supplements for the body. Help is out there.
