Technorati: better workspace conditions

For Computer Ergonomics To Really Work

Tags: , ,

It certainly is good that companies are making means for . After all, most offices are involved in heavy paper and computer work. This entails sitting on end for long hours. This can be very taxing, and exhausting and it can cause injury. This would in turn affect the health of the employees which on the other hand would lead to low productivity. So better workspace conditions, they are essential. They are more than appearances or making an office look impressive. It’s all about functionality as well which would result to better employee efficiency. When it comes to workspace conditions, one may well think of ergonomics, or specifically computer ergonomics.

Modifications in office computer ergonomics certainly are a positive step. This paved the way in helping workers avoid repetitive stress and injuries which at one point became so commonplace. Prior to implementing proper computer ergonomics, there was the epidemic. It affected quite much of the white collar populace. It was then that the culprit behind it was identified, and such an endeavor became helpful in so many ways. But still, many people visit the doctor’s office complaining of backaches which are more often work-related. And these people, they work in offices with workstations having the “proper ergonomic workstation design”.

Apparently, these people are not helped by computer ergonomics for workstations. So what seems to be the problem then, and where’s the hitch? Despite computer ergonomics and ergonomic furniture, it is still possible to slump and slouch. And this is where the hitch is. With this tendency while sitting for long hours, shortened hamstrings and hip flexors can result. The slouching and the slumping, they can continue to put strain and stress on the upper back and neck. This may have occurred repeatedly- even the best ergonomics can’t seem to help bad posture. Yes, there have been upgraded reminder systems.

It’s amazing that they have alarms which help one remember to sit up straight. But such devises actually have less emphasis on making a lasting change. After all, alarms can be shut off, or yet ignored. It takes a whole lot or reminders and scolding about one’s posture till they are able to tune it out. For ergonomics to really work, preventive measures for strain and injury have to be carried out as well. These may include stretching and strengthening activities to improve posture. That way, no one or not any device would need to remind one to sit up straight.

And the workstation computer ergonomics will be less of a factor in keeping one pain and injury-free. Computer ergonomics and ergonomic furniture, they are essential factors in warding off . But they don’t have the ultimate sway. One cannot just rely everything on them. What matters most still in being pain and injury free and healthy is effort and initiative. Effort in living healthily and taking time to keep to the proper rules. Be they rules of keeping a good posture or correct exercises, they can go a long way. They may even be better than ergonomic measures.
