Fri, 21 Aug 2009 11:04:16 +0200 Fri, 21 Aug 2009 11:04:16 +0200 Partake A Glass Of Wine A Day To A Healthier You http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/Health-benefits-of-Red-Wine http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/Health-benefits-of-Red-Wine Eating the right food has been regarded as an effective way to ward off diseases. Much so, it has been regarded as a potent one at that. These days, things have changed. From the food that we eat to the way we treat diseases. Recently, pharmaceutical drugs have been taking over as magic pills in treating diseases. I thank the medical society in their effort to constantly think of ways to treat diseases. But let me pose a question to you all; has it occurred to you that in one way or another, your lifestyles may have caused the condition you have right now? Let us not forget that fruits and vegetables are nature’s magical agents of battling diseases. Well… with other contributing factors of course. Eating a medley of fruits and vegetables is an effective way of keeping fit, isn’t it? In regards to this, I believe that Plato was right when he said that "Nothing more excellent or valuable than wine was ever granted by the Gods to man." Maybe he was just expressing but the truth of the matter is this beverage has greater health benefits than just a plain beverage. Studies have shown that red wine is good for the heart. And a glass of red wine a day can give great health benefits. Research has also indicated that moderate consumption of red wine can help protect against certain cancers as well as heart diseases. Still let me affirm that all things that’s done excessively can be dangerous. Red wine is an alcoholic beverage which is rich in antioxidants; it contains one of the most studied antioxidant, Resveratrol. This compound is found in the seeds and skin of grapes. Red wine has a very high concentration of this compound because of the grapes skins and seeds that ferment during the process. One of the many benefits of red wine is its ability to protect us from degenerating diseases like heart failures. This is because the compound Resveratrol has blood-thinning properties and has been found that it limits the formation of blood clots. This compound also amazingly minimizes DNA mutation that can lead to cancer. This compound works wonders, because it induces cell death in cancer cells and also blocks new blood vessels that feed tumors. With these benefits at hand, I can say that wine and health can go hand in hand together, but it must be taken in complete moderation. So to gain good health, you should do your part as well, with a drink or two of wine a day, religious watching your diet and with a good amount of exercise; you will go a long way. About the author. Fri, 13 Mar 2009 04:14:13 +0100 Hypnotherapy To Bring Out Well- Being From Within http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/NLP-hypnotherapy http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/NLP-hypnotherapy Being under the grip of an addiction or habit such as smoking or nail- biting, stuttering, enuresis or bed-wetting can be frustrating or embarrassing. Or emotional and mental obsessions and compulsions in the same manner. It can cause much exasperation when a person suffers from low self-esteem or low self-worth, phobias or psychosexual issues. Sleeping problems, relationship problems and guilt issues can also prove to be binding in much sense. It is normal for you to have the desire to break free and be well if these conditions beset you. But do you find that something within you resists change? That resistance often comes from your subconscious. Dealing with this subconscious resistance is one of the major concerns of hypnotherapy. The above- mentioned conditions are only some of those which hypnotherapy can address. The list is in fact not comprehensive. This is how crucial hypnotherapy is as a complementary therapy. Hypnotherapy makes use of various techniques. Among them are guided imagery, suggestion and metaphor while a person is under hypnosis. And just what can hypnotherapy help you achieve? While under hypnosis, a naturally relaxed yet focused state of mind is induced. Other subtle therapeutic techniques are also incorporated. Through hypnotherapy, you can achieve your goals, change unwanted habits, enhance your confidence and improve your outlook in life. People who suffer from irrational fears and phobias, panic and anxiety attacks, moodiness and inferiority complex to name a few can be aided by hypnotherapy towards better well-being. These particular issues have psychological factors at work which hypnotherapy is apt to deal with. Hypnotherapy focuses on the root cause of the problem, thus, substitute symptoms are less likely. For instance, there is the Neuro Linguistic programming or NLP. NLP is a powerful tool in achieving fast and effective change. One or two NLP hypnotherapy sessions can help you adopt positive lifestyle changes. In a matter of having a minimal number of sessions, you can learn to eliminate unwanted habits and behavior. And then again, NLP is a useful tool in treating mind-related conditions, such as addictions, phobias and self-esteem issues. It is effective in stress management as well. Child’s Play or Educational Kinesiology is resorted to by students to enhance learning and coordination. Child’s Play is a sequence of simple and enjoyable exercises or movements. These activities turn out to be fun and enjoyable yet they bring about immediate and profound learning and behavior changes. Students with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Tourettes, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can benefit from Educational Kinesiology. A combination of various techniques and methodologies can prove to be powerful in gaining your desired change. So how does it feel when you are being hypnotized? Some people are under the notion that being under hypnosis would make them do things they don’t want to do. But undergoing hypnosis is actually a natural state of mind. There is no real feeling of being hypnotized. When under hypnosis, you remain to be aware and in control. You can exit the state of hypnosis anytime you wish to. The state of hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation and almost anybody who wants to be hypnotized can be hypnotized. Unless of course a person is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or is mentally subnormal or senile. About the author. Wed, 18 Feb 2009 05:17:11 +0100 Restoring Balance And Healing Through Emotional Freedom Therapy http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/Emotional-Freedom-Technique http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/Emotional-Freedom-Technique You may have come upon the terms Emotional Freedom Technique, Emotional Freedom Therapy or EFT especially internet. What seems to be so significant about this therapy or concept? EFT is regarded as one of the recent and prominent discoveries towards healing and restoring balance. Emotional Freedom Therapy falls within the scope of Energy Psychology. In this particular field, techniques have been devised so that person can use and manipulate their life energy in coping with emotional problems, for instance. Everybody is looking for means, ways or techniques for coping with emotional issues, so then came the emergence of EFT. Emotional Freedom Therapy works in the premise that disturbances in the bodys energy system cause negative emotions. Unresolved negative emotions on the other hand lead to the development of physical pains and diseases. A prominent principle of Emotional Freedom Therapy is that the body has energy points. Tapping on these energy points while thinking of a negative emotion alters the body’s energy field allowing balance to be restored. The body’s energy system is linked to energy circuits, as asserted in the Emotional Freedom Therapy concept. These energy circuits are also known as meridians. Our emotional and physical health are directly affected by the state of these meridians. Once these meridians are tuned accordingly, it is when the body’s energy status is restored. Emotional and physical disorders or irregularities can then be rectified, and natural growth and progress takes place. Through Emotional Freedom Therapy, you will learn how negative emotions affect your physical health. And in the first place, you will know what causes negative thoughts and emotions. Through Emotional Freedom Therapy, you would gain knowledge of how negative thoughts and emotions affect your energy levels. And then ultimately, Emotional Freedom Therapy helps in restoring your body’s energy levels. Just how important is EFT? EFT is gaining more and more popularity. It has been acknowledged as one of the most effective and safest methods of treating emotional disorders, which in turn affect the state of physical health. It has been proven to be beneficial in curing fear and phobias, releasing painful memories and negative emotions, eliminating fear of public speaking and even addictions. Depression and trauma are dealt with, and relationships become improved. Panic or anxiety and anger are resolved. Physical ailments relating to vision, headaches, asthma, allergies, blood pressure irregularities and diabetes are addressed as well. So who devised Emotional Freedom Therapy? Gary Craig created the technique in the mid-1990’s. EFT was meant to be a simplification of the Thought Field Therapy devised by Roger Callahan. In the early 1990’s Craig trained with Callahan. It was in 1993 when Callahan trained Craig on a procedure known as Voice Technology. Voice Technology was said to be Callahan’s most advanced procedure, and Craig gained the benefit of being the first person to learn it from Callahan. By the mid- 1990’s Craig simplified Callahan’s techniques. He observed through experience that the sequence of tapping points were less significant. Thus, he deemed that special proprietary procedures were unnecessary. Hence came the massively popular Emotional Freedom Therapy. About the author. Tue, 4 Nov 2008 09:51:39 +0100 Pranic Healing- Drawing Subtle, Luminous Ethereal Energy http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/pranic-healing http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/pranic-healing Many people may be skeptical, but spiritual healing can be substantial. Substantial in a sense that it has essence. After all, when somebody says “spiritual”, one does not rely on what they see, but what they sense and feel. What is essential when it comes to spiritual healing? Spiritual healing is a form of healing which is primarily based on inner attitude. Healing which is of the spirit is to form a connection with the Divine Consciousness. What is this aspect, on the other hand? The Divine Consciousness is the Higher Spirit within a person, and it is that which has no equal. There are several forms of spiritual healing, one of which is pranic healing. What is pranic healing and how is it done? Pranic healing has to do with a person controlling the flow of the prana. The prana is the vital energy drawn from the air. Drawing vital energy from the air (or the prana) is a practice done by yogis. The prana is a subtle, luminous and ethereal energy. Energy that it is which is vital to life, the prana has the power to revitalise the body. Hence the term “pranic healing”, or controlling the flow of the prana to cure ailments and diseases. In pranic healing, the prana is directed to the body part which needs to be healed. That specific body part will then be nourished by energy. As it is nourished by this vital life energy, it rediscovers its ability to heal. The method may begin with one sitting down next to the ailing person. The person about to transfer energy closes their eyes and breathes in deeply. Then they hold their breath and directs the prana towards the affected body part of the patient. It may be done mentally, or by placing the hand on the particular body part. The healer visualizes energy emanating from their hands as it penetrates the body organ involved. Thoughts are concentrated on that specific part together with silent chanting. The healer imagines the prana penetrating the cells, regenerating and healing them. They do this while focusing all their strength on the energy healing. What follows is breathing out and taking another deep breath before starting the same process. Pranic healing can be performed by one person to another. Or else a person can do it on their own when they are ill. A person who is ill can direct prana towards their ailing body part. One or both hands are placed on this area for the healing to take place. The process can be done by projecting prana through telepathy as well. To obtain better results from the method, a five to ten minute session can be done in a day. The spiritual pranic healing depends on being attuned to the divine within, the Higher Spirit in a person. This essence has no equal and it is capable of giving healing and life. Energy is life, and what else can give life but life itself. The subtle, luminous ethereal energy which is the prana is life breathed in and breathed out, healing and restoring until it makes whole. About the author. Tue, 16 Sep 2008 04:17:40 +0200 The Power Of Seeing: Visualization http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/visualization http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/visualization You want to achieve something. You desire, you need, you want. Most people do, but the fact remains that goals, needs, wants and desires need effort to attain or get hold of. You may even have heard of the word “impossible”. To many people, this word befits what it is that they aim for. “Impossible” can be such an unkind word, to say the least. It represents something which “cannot be”, or “can never be”. Is it possible to defy the “impossible”? For one who believes, it is. You can have what you want, what you need, what you desire and what you aim for- even if it seems “impossible”. How? Start with seeing, or envisioning, and you activate your vast dormant potential. By seeing or envisioning, associated is visualization. You visualize, you create a picture of your desired outcome. What happens is that you become motivated, the potency inside you has been stimulated. Then it will mean that you become empowered, you become driven. And it is all the more that you want, you aim and you become zealously determined to succeed. Such is the power of visualization. Visualization is a powerful tool, indeed. It uses the imagination and the mind. And everything starts with the mind. If you want to achieve great things, begin with using your mind – visualize. Envision, foresee, or simply see. Visualization is about imagination, and how it can defy a dispiriting reality. Visualization starts with relaxing the mind, paving the way for its immense capability to function. How is it to use visualization? You can envision yourself getting where you want to be, doing what you want to do. But to make visualization more potent and effective, be specific. Be concrete. Visualize yourself taking the necessary steps for you to achieve your goal or goals. Create a vivid picture and you will see how it will even drive you more. Yes, you will see, and this can be so compelling. Other than being a potent tool for achieving goals, visualization can serve many other purposes. If you have been perturbed by stress, pain or anxiety, visualization can help you break free. If you are struggling from a bothersome weight issue and needs to keep to your weight loss program, visualize. You will find that you are many steps nearer to your goal. And if you are battling any form of addiction, the liberation you so seek can be had- if you use your will and your mind. And you visualize. Over and over again, visualization has been used to resolve many issues and problems. And it works and has worked for so many. Whichever setbacks and challenges that beset you, defy what you consider as impossible. Starts with believing that you can- by being positive. Positivity is said to be among the most powerful tools a person can posses. You can achieve positivity or a positive attitude through visualization. Seeing is more than having a healthy eyesight. What sees clearly, and even absolutely is the inward eye. See from such a perspective and you can behold a breathtaking, endless view of possibilities. And it is ultimately your will and choice to turn these possibilities into realities. About the author. Mon, 21 Jul 2008 13:30:33 +0200 Is There A Psychic Vampire In Your Life? http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/psychic-vampire http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/psychic-vampire Is there a person in your life who makes you feel drained and exhausted whenever you are with them? The presence of this person would seem to drain the life energy out of you leaving you sapped of your forces. Such a person can be a friend, a family member, a co-worker or anybody familiar to you. Or else, they could be somebody you don’t know at all, like the one standing next to you in the line at the grocery store. What this person does is feed from the energy of your life force and they are what is called a “psychic vampire”. There are vampires of the legend, and what psychic vampires do is akin to what they did. Spiritual or psychic vampires can take on many forms. How would you be able to spot a psychic vampire in your life? A psychic vampire often appears during your time of weakness or vulnerability. This makes you an easy prey, especially if you are of the trusting nature. The energy of your aura is what these predators feed off from. All of us drain energy from other people at some points, although inadvertently. During those moments when we feel “down” or melancholic, we might be able to absorb the life force of those around us. But this doesn’t mean that we lurk on others and deliberately sap them of their life force. This doesn’t make us life energy vampires at all. Being in a state of depression and melancholy is not to be confused with psychic vampirism. What is a real psychic vampire on the other hand? It is somebody who knowingly saps your life force to sustain them. Somebody who draws out life and thought energy from others and for their own gain. We’ve seen vampires in movies- they wear capes and they are spotted when they don’t cast a reflection in the mirror. A psychic vampire cannot be spotted in that sense. Such a person or entity doesn’t run around in scary capes or garb. Nor do they turn into bats and fly off to some Transyvannian haunted castle. An energy vampire looks like everybody else- like a normal person. In fact, they can even be attractive and charming. They can be in the guise of neighbors, classmates, co-workers and friends. Is someone in your life soaking on your spiritual energy? Here are signs to look out for. Keep some healthy skepticism when an acquaintance offers you assistance which seems too good to be true - trust your instincts when it comes to people. Be keen about how you feel in the presence of a specific person. Are you spiritually or psychically drained or worn out when you are with them? If so, be cautious in your dealings with that person. They could be leeching on your life energy. How do you feel when that person is not around? How is your energy level- better or not? Take note of your state of mind when you are in their presence. Are you mentally confused and feeling in a daze? What about when they are absent- are you in a better mental state? There are many instances when we actually invite a psychic vampire in our lives. In this sense you have to be wary. You can be put to much risk if you have trusted the wrong person. About the author. Thu, 19 Jun 2008 08:03:38 +0200 The Third Eye And The Door To The Spiritual World http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/third-eye http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/third-eye You’ve probably had that experience when the thought of a friend suddenly came to mind, and then that friend called a soon after. Or when you thought about an episode you’ve seen on tv and the following night it’s been shown. Incidents such as these and perhaps many others more which seem surprising. But maybe you say to yourself that they are mere coincidences. But are they, really? These are actually moments when you’re having a glimpse of your psychic self. When it comes to matters which are psychic, the term “third eye” is associated. The third eye is also known as the “inner eye”, or “the minds eye”. It is believed that people have three eyes. The two eyes are those which can be physically seen- plain as the eyes can see, so to speak. And then there is the third eye which is spiritual. Meditation and hypnosis are two of the means of opening this aspect of the psychic self. Once you have opened your third eye, you unlock the door to numerous possibilities, and one of them is looking into the future. Your psychic self is at work when you’re having those intuitive moments. You’d be opening yourself up to more psychic abilities once your third eye has been opened. It’s the site where we receive psychic impressions. This mind’s eye is said to be associated with the pineal gland in the brain. For most people, the pineal gland is dormant. Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, believed that the pineal glad is the “seat of the soul”. It is where the mind and the body intersect. The pineal gland is inactive for most people, but opening the third eye would activate the gland. Meditation and hypnosis can help a person do so. Once a person succeeds in this effort, it will be an unfolding of themselves into a whole other spiritual world. Certain new psychic abilities would also develop, such as clairvoyance, telepathy and telekinesis. A person could begin to see spiritual beings. Chakras and auras of other people may become apparent. Seeing into the future becomes possible, a psychic ability called precognition. It will be a whole new experience of the spiritual- a world beyond what can be seen and almost like magical. As much as this ability sounds so appealing, it can be dangerous, too. For one thing, you’d be knowing what you’re not supposed to know. This can be used to your advantage, but responsibilities are entailed with this superhuman capability. There’s that ever popular line from Spiderman “with great power comes great responsibility”. Psychic ability is a kind of power in itself, but it has to be used responsibly. After all, actions, whether good or otherwise have their consequences. Tapping into your psychic self will bring you into an experience which is beyond the typical. If you think you are up and ready for it, then you can try exercises for opening the third eye or strengthening your intuition. Meditation and hypnosis will be able to help you as well. Tue, 27 May 2008 15:14:03 +0200 L-arginine: The Body’s Natural Viagra http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/natural-Viagra http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/natural-Viagra Erectile dysfunction affects a large percentage of men, and it is of varying degrees. As many men have this dilemma, the search is on for the best erectile dysfunction treatment. When it comes to such a treatment, the pharmaceutical Viagra has been quite popular. A significant proportion of the male population with ED has believed in the drug. But as a pharmaceutical, though, Viagra has side effects. Side effects are the drawbacks of pharmaceuticals although they do work. That’s why some people resort to natural remedies or treatments, or otherwise alternatives. But what about ED, is there a natural treatment for it? Or otherwise, is there an alternative or a natural Viagra? Well, actually there is, although the alternative may not be as potent. This natural Viagra is in the form of L-Arginine. L-Arginine is actually a naturally occurring amino acid found in the muscles and cell tissues. This compound can also be obtained from food. But L-Arginine from the diet may not suffice for the body’s needs. A solution for this is through supplementation which is deemed essential to obtain overall health. But what or L-Arginine being a natural Viagra? Is this fact established or proven? As recent studies have indicated, L-Arginine instigates the production of a compound called nitric oxide in the body. And what on the other hand is nitric oxide? Nitric oxide is utilized by the male reproductive system in order to stimulate a penile erection. This is the correlation between L-Arginine, male penile erection and erectile dysfunction. Arginine supplementation has been proven to treat mild cases of erectile dysfunction. Hence, it is regarded as the natural Viagra. The supplement form has been found to be effective. Vitamin companies are in fact out to exploit its effectiveness. Manufacturers aim to develop products based on the compound. Many products have boasted of being able to treat ED and among its vital components is Arginine. It is combined with a host of other ingredients as well. So does this mean that this compound is an effective Viagra alternative? The answer to this question is both a “yes” and a “no”. As a Viagra alternative, the compound will not be able to stimulate an immediate erection. Supplementation of it does not cause the body to bypass the normal stimulation mechanism. One would still need the visual, mental and physical stimuli for an erection in order for the supplement to work. As formerly mentioned, it’s able to address only mild ED, but it will aid in the ease in obtaining an erection. For a more potent erectile dysfunction treatment, L-Arginine can be used to supplement Viagra. Doing so will make the drug more effective. Even if a man still needs to rely on the pharmaceutical, Arginine supplementation would be helpful. This is how the body’s natural Viagra works- by inciting the production of nitrous oxide in the body. In turn, an erection would be stimulated. The alternative is capable of treating mild ED and increase the performance of Viagra. So there is hope for ED sufferers if they take time looking for the right treatments and alternatives or a combination of such measures. About the author. Wed, 7 May 2008 08:27:14 +0200 Energy Healing: Balancing And Restoring The Energy Field http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/energy-healing1 http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/energy-healing1 One of the most difficult illnesses to deal with is depression. When you are depressed, you are overcome with a sense of gloom and doom. Living has become a heavy burden for you. By all means, you would be stripped of a good quality of life. There are many ways to treat depression. There’s therapy and medications in the conventional approach. There are alternative treatments as well with different principles. But yet, alternative treatments can be as equally effective. Like for instance, energy healing. Energy healing techniques such as Healing Touch, Brennan Healing and Reiki can help you break free from the negativity of depression. How does energy healing work? All that you see, hear, taste smell and touch- they have a vibration. When you hear a low note music, it has its own vibration. And a high note music has a different vibration. The color red has its own vibration which is different from blue or green. As you can see, it’s all vibration. Your body as well is a computation of vibrations. Your moods and emotions carry vibrations with them. Your moods and emotions actually interact with each other. The feeling of “joy” has a different chemical make up than feeling dejected. All of us has an aura- an envelop of energy surrounding the body. The templates for the body are all contained in the aura. Our emotions and thoughts, our relationships and our connection with the Divine- they are all embodied in the aura. Remember that everything is about vibration. When you have developed an illness (low vibration), it first affects the aura. The aura feels it first before it manifests into your body. So therefore, the aura has to be healed of the illness before physical healing can take place. This is where energy healing comes in- to charge and balance the energy field. When somebody has a sunny disposition, they have a higher vibration. On the other hand, when somebody is angry, their vibration is low. Auras or energy fields are generally not seen, but here is an example. You know “Pig Pen” who is one of the Peanut Cartoon characters? Pig Pen is seen as a disheveled character. There is a cloud of dirt hovering about him. A depressed person’s aura is like that - congested, murky, dense and weighed down. If somebody is in this state, other people’s kind words cannot get through. But through energy healing, the denseness and the murkiness can be lifted out of the energy field. The energy field would be restored and charged and it will be balanced. More so, it will be opened up. The pattern is changed for a time, at least. With some energy healing work, you will know about the depressed pattern and the healthy pattern. You will be guided on how it is to move from a depressed state to a happy and satisfied one. You might consider resorting to energy healing for depression now that you know some of its principles. It is among the natural healing modalities in alternative medicine which many people have found appealing. About the author. Wed, 16 Apr 2008 14:51:23 +0200 Complementing Weight Loss With Acupuncture http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/acupuncture http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/acupuncture The Chinese are known for their amazing healing arts, and the most famous of them is acupuncture. This healing art technique has mainly been used as a pain relief therapy. It has been known to be effective in treating bronchitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis and the common cold. The healing technique is widely popular in addressing joint and muscle conditions as well. It can have the greatest impact on the body’s major systems. Among them are the reproductive, respiratory, digestive and urinary systems. Migraines and headaches can be remedied by acupuncture, and so can fatigue, depression, insomnia and irritable bowel syndrome. Through the millennia, acupuncture had been resorted to, and may have attested to its efficacy. But there is yet one condition which many people have to contend with, and in which the technique can be of use. Such a condition is being overweight or obesity. Of course, acupuncture is not one which will promise weight loss miracles in this sense. The natural healing modality rather has a more intensive purpose. It goes into addressing the underlying condition which may hinder weight loss. Some of these conditions may be polycystic ovaries, slow metabolism and thyroid dysfunction. Along with herbal medicine, acupuncture can also reduce food cravings and increase will power towards losing weight. This well-known alternative therapy could be an excellent complement to a weight loss program. This healing art will not promote weight loss on its own. Dieting and regular exercise remain to be the best means to be trim, fit and healthy. What this alternative therapy mainly does is to boost those basic means for weight loss and to make them more effective. For more than two thousand years, acupuncture had been a natural healing modality. For over centuries and centuries, from the ancient times, people have relied on its principles. And to this day, this healing art remains popular. When people look for a divergent path for treatment other than conventional medicine, they turn to alternative medicine. For treatment of various conditions and ailments, alternative healing modalities have a certain appeal. After all, they promote natural healing. Techniques and therapies are used to stimulate the bodys natural healing ability. And so here is acupuncture as a recourse for boosting weight loss. Over and again, there have been diet pills and countless of schemes for this purpose. But many may have been dismayed as such measures may have side effects, or they work slow and could even be ineffective. It can be that they fail to address the true underlying cause of obesity. But once the root of the problem is dealt with, then the efficacy of measures can take place. This is what acupuncture can do- deal with the root cause of the condition. And when the root cause of the condition has been dealt with, healing can take place. Acupuncture promotes balance and harmony all throughout the body’s systems and workings. With the energy that flows all throughout the body. Such is why “dis-ease” and disharmony can be done away with. For safety and to get the best results, acupuncture has to be done by a master or a skilled professional. Specialist equipment has to be used as well. Each session generally lasts from 45 minutes to an hour. The cost ranges from 25 to 40 pounds per session, but it may vary. Consultation ought to go first before going through the therapy. Fri, 28 Mar 2008 08:11:58 +0100 Herbal Remedies Are From Then Until Now http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/herbal-remedies http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/herbal-remedies More and more people are now acknowledging and using herbal remedies. They are quite becoming popular owing the their efficacy which many have proven. Herbal remedies, as the name implies is making use of herbs for treatment of an ailment, disease or condition. For centuries, they were the curative and treatment measures which societies have relied upon. They worked then, and so why not now. But conventional forms of treatment have overshadowed herbal remedies. The use of pharmaceutical drugs has become mainstream and people regard them to be the ultimate answer. But what is popular doesn’t have to always be right. Conventional treatments do work in themselves and they can be effective, too. But such modes have drawbacks- they have side effects – and at times they can be debilitating. There are cases wherein a disease or condition may be treated, but there is an offshoot of another one. This does not at all serve the true purpose of a treatment. Treatment ought to lead to alleviation or elimination of a disease or condition, not the production of another one or an aggravation of it. And so here comes a divergent option for treatment other than pharmaceutical drugs – herbal remedies. Herbal remedies fall under the scope of alternative methods of treatment. Alternative medicine is oftentimes more inclined towards natural healing- natural modes of treatment. They are means which work in conjunction with the body’s natural processes. Among these natural means is the use of herbs to promote better health. Herbs have been used over the centuries for cooking. So why can’t they be safe and effective as medicines? To this day, herbal remedies are gaining a wide acceptance. As such, many manufacturers have produced different forms of them and made them available in the market. That’s why they are not so elusive as they were during the height of the popularity of conventional treatments. One third of all patients use herb remedies for some of their conditions and diseases. But often, they don’t tell their doctors about it. It could be out of forgetfulness, or they may think it’s not necessary. Or perhaps they are ashamed of telling their doctors. They may even think that their doctor would disapprove of such manner of treatment. But some doctors have regard for herbal remedies. They may approve of their patients using them, or they may even use them themselves. Getting hold of such treatment measures can be had through the countless products containing herbs and natural ingredients. But how can one be assured that they are getting the right ones- good quality and authentic herbal products? It takes being cautious- getting from a credible and reputable source. It also takes research of which of the herbs would be most appropriate for one’s condition. One can go to the library for research, or read some alternative medicine journals, or even go online. Better yet, they could ask for the opinion of a qualified herbalist. An expert herbalist is one who has the better authority and knowledge on such matters. With the proper guidance, information and awareness, one can get the best benefits out of herbal remedies. About the author. Wed, 12 Mar 2008 04:50:27 +0100 A Distinctive Definition Of Home Remedies http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/home-remedies http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/home-remedies Ailments and diseases beset most everyone every now and then. Such is why the search for cures and treatments is one of the most essential pursuits. There are many approaches to treat and cure the ails which now and then plague people. Primarily there is conventional medicine with the use of invasive procedures and pharmaceuticals. Many people have relied on such an approach as it seems to be the most popular. And there are times indeed when this approach would be more appropriate. But then there are those who would resort to something a bit divergent – alternative medicine. Modalities used in alternative medicine are different from those used in conventional approaches. Alternative approaches are in fact inclined on holistic wellness and natural healing. But first, what is this holistic view of wellness, or holistic medicine? This is defined as an approach to medical care with an emphasis on the study on all aspects of a person’s health. These aspects are physical, psychological, social, economic and cultural. Apparently, this holistic viewpoint is very broad. Therefore, it can apply to many medical approaches. But nevertheless, holistic health is integral to the alternative modality. And natural healing, as said. Within the scope of natural healing is the use of home remedies. Most people connote such treatments with myths and legends and folklores. But these, they also contain a grain of truth. So perhaps there is some truth to home remedies as well. But first, what really are they and how are they defined. One may well say “remedies applied at home”. Well, pharmaceuticals are also applied at home. But they actually contradictory to home remedies. But when one thinks about such remedies, what comes into mind is some sort of cure or treatment which is not within the bounds of mainstream medicine. Herbs are also associated with home remedies. But what is an herbal cure or treatment? Apparently it’s with the use of a plant, a plant part, an extract or a mixture. And it then is used to treat, cure or alleviate disease. It’s also called herbal medicine. Others many connote a home remedy with an herbal remedy. But home remedies actually encompass more than herbal treatments or cures. What also comes to mind pertaining to this subject is folk medicine. What exactly is it? Such an approach is traditional medicine, and it is used by people who cannot avail of modern medical services. Or rather, they are isolated from it. This folk approach, it is usually involved with using plant derived treatments on an empirical basis. So are home remedies related to this in any way? But then again , what is the dictionary definition of a home remedy? It is said to be a “simply prepared medication or tonic of unproven effectiveness”. It is also said to be administered without medical supervision or a prescription. So there it goes – it is a remedy prepared outside the bounds of modern medicine. And it is not limited to herbs alone. But of “unproven effectiveness”? That may not be the case. Home remedies have actually led to some of the greatest medical breakthroughs. It can be reasonable to say then that a home remedy is an experienced based or even accidental remedy or cure, prepared from plant or herbs and other ingredients. And they have been prepared by common folk when modern medical help is either unavailable or not devised yet. Well that seems a reasonable definition to arrive at, right? About the author. Mon, 28 Jan 2008 13:02:06 +0100 Alternative Health: Health, Healing And Harmony http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/alternative-health1 http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/alternative-health1 Alternative health is becoming a byword these days. In the internet, on t.v., even health publications, the term “alternative medicine” has become common. What really is it – alternative health or alternative medicine? Alternative medicine is that which is different from conventional or traditional medicine. Apparently, alternative methods diverge from their conventional counterparts. Alternative health is in essence natural healing. When one says “natural healing” what may come to mind is something antiquated and outmoded. But the fact is, natural healing has been time tested. These natural modalities for wellness have long existed before conventional methods. And natural healing modalities, they were safe. They are not likely to have known side effects. Yet by no doubt, natural healing works. They are potent healing techniques yet they are safe. Societies of ages past resorted to natural healing. And it was able to contend with the various ailments and diseases that plagued them. Natural modalities have the backing of history to prove their efficacy. So why can’t natural healing be effective to this day? Such is why natural methods are making a comeback. They are eventually being incorporated into mainstream medicine in the guise of alternative health. Alternative medicine is different from conventional medicine in that it encourages a person to take responsibility for their health. Alternative health is more than visiting the doctor when one is sick. Alternative health is a lifestyle. More so, it is a frame of mind. Alternative health does not merely aim to heal an illness. It aims on living healthily in a natural manner to prevent illness. Alternative health is all about holistic wellness- that of the mind, body and spirit. How can one achieve this? By being aware. By realizing that the mind, the body and the spirit are intertwined. When one aspect is all, then the rest will be affected. Alternative health is all about balance. A balance of the total being which leads to total wellness. When the body is sick, so will be the mind and the emotions. The same can be said with the contrary. When a person is ill spiritually, then it can cause irregularities with the mind and the body. Illness can strike these aspects when the spirit is unwell. That is the essence of alternative health. A healthy lifestyle for the total being to be in optimum well-being. Exercise, nutrition, acupuncture, massage therapy, acupuncture, aromatherapy, herbal remedies. They are some of the most popular alternative healing modalities. So are stress management, yoga and meditation. These lifestyle and healing methods all address the total being- the physical and the non-physical. And they are natural means at that. Non-toxic, anodyne, safe and gentle yet effective. Those who live the alternative health lifestyle do not at all negate conventional medicine. It’s just that they are not likely to need the conventional approach anymore. With their choice of alternative health, they are resolved to take responsibility for their health and their lives. No need to be helpless under the power of toxic chemicals and invasive procedures. Alternative health is all about harmony from within which extends to the balance of nature on the outside. It makes a whole lot of sense and can be a better option for better living. Wed, 9 Jan 2008 03:29:43 +0100 Constant Surge Of Positivity With Subliminal Messages http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/subliminal-messages http://www.healthzine.org/Alternative/subliminal-messages Subliminal messages is a fact proven by science. Normally, we receive and comprehend messages through words. Subliminal messages can be conveyed through words, too. Have you ever experienced reading a motivational book and then you can suddenly feel the surge of positive energy within you? Or perhaps listen to a top personal development guru and you felt empowered? Then that book or that person may have sent subliminal messages to you. Subliminal messages are those messages which seep deeper into your subconscious. In the case of books or motivational speakers, their words have become potent energy which empowers. They create changes from within a person. There are cases though when the motivation they imparted would wane. It happened to me. Countless of times in fact. I would read a good book or listen to a motivational speaker. Their words would inspire me and I felt that I can finally face living head on again. The feeling is certainly good. A surge of positive energy indeed. But it seems that their effect is not long lasting. Eventually I would feel negativity creeping in and then it would weigh me down. So how do I completely make use of subliminal messages? I am aware of the potency of subliminal messages. And along the path to personal empowerment, I would want to make use of them. How can subliminal messages be effective? How do I create lasting changes using them? Apparently, a two prong attack is needed. This, I have come to realize. Other than getting subliminal messages from books and people, I came across subliminal programming. What exactly is subliminal programming? Lasting changes can only come into maximum effect with subliminal messages from personal development sources and subliminal programming. By subliminal programming, it means sending positive affirmations directly into the subconscious mind by bypassing the conscious mind. This can be achieved by making use of various subliminal programming media, subliminal music and videos. With this sort of subliminal messages, lasting changes can be inculcated from within as the subconscious mind is being reprogrammed. Negativity and self limiting beliefs can be eliminated and only to be overcome by positivity and personal empowerment. Subliminal messages of this sense can be derived from subliminal music. This sort of music imbeds subliminal messages of positive affirmations. Oftentimes, beautiful oceanic music is subliminal music of this nature. When this subliminal music is played and listened to repeatedly, it sends subliminal messages to the subconscious mind. Positive ones which can only replace and overpower self limiting beliefs and tendencies. In fact, even self-limiting behaviors can also be eliminated. Subliminal messages work from the back on your mind until the positive changes come out on the surface. Lasting changes are generally those which come from deep within. This ought to be borne in mind. I have come to the realization that I should be aware of what goes on in my subconscious and what weighs me down. That way, I would know what to do to change for the better. Subliminal messages come in all forms, positive and negative. The subconscious only has to be strong enough not to be swayed by negative subliminal messages. It also has to be receptive to listen to and acknowledge positive ones. That way, positive change becomes possible, and the surge of positive energy becomes constant. About the author.
