Fri, 3 Jul 2009 08:33:55 +0200 Fri, 3 Jul 2009 08:33:55 +0200 You Can Become Increasingly Popular Even When You're Bald http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/You-Can-Become-Increasingly-Popular http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/You-Can-Become-Increasingly-Popular If you are to be asked for a word that would best describe bald people, what would you say? Would you describe them as sexy, or would you discriminate them? Certainly we all have our own opinions about bald people, and I will certainly respect yours regarding the matter. But if I am to be asked of my opinion, I believe that it all depends to the person, because there are people who would look good being bald, and there are people who do not. It is you who knows yourself better, so take time to know what style or fashion would look best in you. But of course, you should also consider other peoples opinion. These days, you can become increasingly popular and certainly, gone are the days where being bald are perceived as ugly and unattractive, because what was a faux pas then, eventually became a trend nowadays. This is the funny thing when you talk about fashion; it’s evolving. It’s like three circles; one overlapping the other, standing vertically; a stage so to speak. The first circle being the struggling for acceptance stage, where bald people are being ridiculed and perceived as ugly; then the second circle which overlaps the first, is the stage where people start to try this kind of style, but not all; and the last circle which overlaps the second circle is the stage where they become an accepted part of the society. Here are some popular names of celebrities, who look good being bald. Sean Connery is one of the most famous bald celebrities, who have been tagged as having a sexy accent. Now if you are tagged as an Ed Harris, then you must have a devastating sex appeal. Another celebrity is Hector Elizondro who is perceived as to have a take charge attitude. Montel Williams is one celebrity who looks sexy with his great body, and lastly we have John Lithgow who is funny, tall, and exceedingly handsome. And of course who can forget Bruce Willis who at his age would still look ambrosial. If you ask me, it does not matter if you’re hairless or if you have a crowning glory that’s worth a lot of money. All that matters is that you must have the right attitude and refined manners. As a matter of fact here are some attributes we find attractive in men. You must have a good sense of humor; this characteristic makes you become a light companion to be with. This trait is even great, when you are with a group, because you keep the mood alive. Another admirable trait is Cleanliness. Let’s face it guys, even if you look like an Adonis, but you if look unkempt then its all for none. And the most important thing is manners; this will make you become likable in any occasion and to everyone. So bald men, be not be ashamed of yourselves, but rather come out of the box and show the world what you have. It’s all about self acceptance and confidence. Of course maturity also plays a big role in any situation. And lastly you should also be physically fit, because this will make you look good in the clothes that you wear. So set yourself free and come out of the dark. Because whenever I hear a man making bad comments about themselves just because they’re bald, I feel so sad, and it makes me want to hold their hands and say “You are beautiful in your own special way” Yes after Obesity, baldness is the biggest fear that men have, because there are about 66% males who suffer from this condition. But the battle for self-esteem does not stop there. Fight back, do something about it; use your assets to your advantage, this will make you attractive. And always remember that attitude is EVERYTHING! About the author. Dr. Rose Windale is a successful Health & Wellness Coach who has been advising and coaching individuals for many years. Mon, 11 May 2009 11:20:21 +0200 What You Need To Know About The Causes Of Hair Loss http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/know-more-of-the-causes-of-hair-loss http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/know-more-of-the-causes-of-hair-loss Hair loss is a major concern for everyone--men or women. This may sound surprising to some, but the real score is, it is. Just imagine how a bald man feels when he’s out in the sun. Well of course our body would secrete body liquids to help protect the scalp from the sun’s heat but with the help of these protective tresses, the scalp would feel less of the heat versus a person without any covering at all. To some it is their crowning glory. Because it is the only factor that adds to their beauty, and without it, well… they would look different. In short, they feel a lot more confident with having locks on their head. To know more of the causes of hair loss, let us first look at its root. What is hair loss? Well simply put… it is the state where a person sheds more follicles than normal. But first let us look at the causes of hair loss. Normally the average persons head contains 100,000 follicles, however not all of these strands grow in the same rate. The follicle growth rate is around (½ ) half an inch per month. Normally a person drops at least fifty to one hundred strands per day. So be not alarmed of this when you you see follicle strands on your brush. Or when you see strands of follicles on your pillow when you wake up in the morning. This is a normal way of things. But if you see excessive strands on your pillow or on your brush, and that a part of your head is thinning, then this is a sign that you are experiencing hair loss, resulting in baldness. If this is so, those people who grows follicle strands in a slower rate, and losses them still, is a very depressing factor. Some even try different hair growing products, some uses wigs, and some sees it differently, they think it’s sexy. This is what you need to know about the causes of hair loss. It may be because of your genes. Now in this kind of dilemma is very inevitable to those who have baldness as a family background. Because they cannot escape it, it is sure to come. But modern science nowadays has made a solution to this. Be sure though that you did an ample amount of research to the product, when you decide to use any of this. One good way of focus on your research is the stability of the company who made the product. Another is the kinds of facilities that they use. You will know of this if you look if they have ISO licenses regarding state of the art facilities. Lastly you may want to know if they are using plant based products. Are their products chemically free? Do they have ISO certification on this aspect? Hormonal changes can also be one of the many causes of hair loss. Severe stress and trauma contributes to this dilemma. Hormonal changes can have various effects as well, like those of oily strands when hormonal levels are high. Another factor that contributes is the usage of styling products. Curling and straitening when done too often destroys the shaft and eventually they fall out. Grooming is another factor, do not brush them when they’re still wet and never tie them in very tight styles. Knowing more of the causes of hair loss plus appropriate care can help you in your struggle, as well as the excessive spending on treatments. Lastly try to accept yourself for who you really are, sometimes its better this way, be your best at what you do, and discover that sometimes when you’re at your best, even at baldness, YOU would still look SEXY! Tue, 14 Apr 2009 09:11:08 +0200 Done With The Curly Hair “ Curse” With Proper Curly Hair Care http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/taking-care-of-curly-hair http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/taking-care-of-curly-hair Curly hair doesn’t look as shipshape as straight hair. Curls do look “frazzled”, don’t they? And sometimes you would think that taking care of curly hair is as easy as pie- just simply let the curls be. After all, aren’t curls supposed to be fabulous being disheveled and “messy”? So you’d think that if you have curls, you simply have to let your them be- no fuss. But that’s not the case at all, your curly hair is hair, and as much as other types, your curls need proper haircare. So how does it go? When it comes to conditioning your curly hair, these tips would be helpful. Hot oil treatment every two to three weeks would help in adding moisture. During the colder months, your curls would especially find the treatments useful. Your curls easily become dry and brittle during cold weather, thus treatments, or hot oil treatments are necessary. During warm months in the same manner, your curls would need moisture. More so if you often go swimming wherein chlorine wreaks havoc on your wavy tresses. And so hot oil treatments would come in handy as well. When having a hot oil treatment, the heat opens up the inner vortex of the strands, and oil is able to penetrate. There are many and varied sorts of hot oil treatment kits available in local drug stores. Resorting to a good quality product and using it regularly can mean vibrant, healthy and fabulous curly hair for you. You would not even need to go to the salon on a regular basis for the treatment. With home hot oil treatment kits, you can conveniently have the treatment and at a lesser cost at that. And it could mean getting the same results from salon treatment. And then you also have to keep your curls looking tapered. In this regard, you ought to get a trim every 6-8 weeks. This way, you get rid of stringy ends. For added manageability and shine, you can apply diluted essential oils. You can use essential oils on your curls, or skin for that matter. But you have to be wary that when using essential oils on any part of your body. When doing so, the essential oils are best diluted. It can be frazzled having to deal with your curly hair. After all, “frazzled” is an appropriate word to describe it. But you can do away with this particular curly hair “curse” and turn it into a blessing. And it’s a matter of applying the proper haircare at the right time. It’s knowing when to apply even the minor changes needed in your daily styling routine. Gone are the bad hair days for you then, or you’d have them minimally. And you’re off to looking your best with your curls. You’d be feeling your best, too, as your curls won’t be as pesky to deal with. It’s you looking your best and feeling your best with curly hair, letting it be while you radiate with confidence. Fri, 5 Dec 2008 02:38:28 +0100 Healthy Hair Tips At No Cost http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/healthy-hair http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/healthy-hair Your hair does a lot on how you look, be it short or long and straight or curly. It influences the way people perceive you. It also reflects your age for a healthy hair gives you a young, vibrant and fresh look, while a dull and unhealthy one makes you look old. It also boosts your confidence knowing that you look good. So it is always advisable that you keep it soft, shiny, dandruff free and sweet smelling too. But having soft, shiny, sweet smelling and dandruff free hair requires proper care. Most people thought that having the hair they dreamed of as well as maintaining it usually entails a lot of money, not to mention their precious time. It would mean visiting beauty salons and spa regularly or using very expensive hair products. But you could also have beautiful and healthy hair like those of commercial models you see on TV and magazines without having to spend so much. How? The answer is not as difficult and complicated as you think. Just follow these simple tips. Firstly, you need to have enough sleep every night. Enough sleep is not determined by the quantity or the number of hours you spent sleeping but rather by the quality of your sleep. It means that it should be a restful sleep to allow your cells to regenerate. It is advisable that you go to bed early and make it your habit to avoid sleeping problems. Secondly, eat healthy. Be very conscious with what you eat. It is highly recommended that you eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins A, C and E and biotin, and avoid those that are unhealthy like fatty ones. Vitamin A helps your scalp produce healthy sebum. This could be found in cheese, milk, spinach, fish liver oil, meat, eggs, cabbage broccoli, peaches, apricots, and carrots. Vitamin C helps keep your hair and skin healthy. Tomatoes, potatoes, green leafy vegetables, kiwi, pineapple, strawberries, citrus fruits like lemon and orange, and green peppers are rich in vitamin C. Vitamin E, on the other hand, enhances blood circulation on your scalp. Wheat germ oil, soybeans, dried beans, raw seeds and nuts, and leafy green vegetables are good sources of this kind of vitamin. Biotin rich foods like egg yolk, liver, milk and whole grains are also good for your hair as biotin may prevent graying and hair loss. If you have no enough supply of these foods, you may also take vitamins and food supplements which are available in drugstores. Ask your doctor for the right amount of these vitamins to take to avoid overdose and allergies. Thirdly, have a regular hair cut as it allows the hair to grow and get away with unhealthy tips. Lastly, choose carefully the shampoos, conditioner and other hair products that you are going to use. Choose only those that are right for your scalp. You may experiment on what products are right for you but you must be very careful also for this might cause serious damage. Indeed, having and keeping healthy hair does not have to be expensive and time consuming as going to beauty salons and spa regularly. Often times their effect are only temporary and may not be good in the long run. Having enough sleep, eating the right foods, taking vitamins and food supplements and using the right products are enough to give you shiny and healthy hair. About the author. Fri, 21 Nov 2008 09:21:46 +0100 The Real Price Of Hair Rebonding: Can You Afford It? http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-rebonding http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-rebonding It’s just wonderful how Jennifer Lopez and Faye Wong have it. Long, straight silky and shiny hair. Doesn’t it just seem so divine and perfect. How it defines the eyes and the cheekbones? And just as lovely straight hair has made these gorgeous celebrities ever more stunning, so would you want to have it. But the problem is, yours is wavy and frizz has long been a problem. But thanks to beauty salons and your hairdresser’s make-over savvy, you can be off to a new, refreshing look. You with what seems to be well-kept and pristine-looking straight hair through the magic of the latest treatments. You’ve heard of hair rebonding and how it can instantly transform wavy and frizzy hair into impeccably straight and shipshape. Everybody is into it, and your feel the urge to go with the trend as well. Hair rebonding can quite be costly, but you won’t mind it at all. All you’d want and care about is to metamorphose into Jennifer Lopeze’s clone. You’d be willing to shed off much of your resources just to get hold of the instant straightening results of rebonding. But having “shed off much resources” might not be the only expense required of hair rebonding. This popularly chic treatment can actually cause you to go bald. A case study cited of a 14-year-old girl who had big clumps of her tresses falling in the shower after having gone through the rebonding treatment. After two months, her hairstrands started breaking. Another woman had a fate as worse. She sued her hairdresser when bald patches appeared on her head after rebonding. In fact, during the process itself, her scalp began stinging. Hairfall also took place, and in clumps as well. Just as you would want to have it on the outside- straight, silky and shiny hair. But when rebonding, chemical bonds in your hairstrands are actually rearranged. The strands are then bonded back again-permanently- with the use of very strong chemicals. Do you like the sound of it – “very strong chemicals”? And do they seem friendly to your fragile and flimsy hairstrands? You guessed it right- rebonding is one of the most damaging treatments your hair can ever go through. Perming lotion is initially applied to soften your hair. Its bonds are then broken down. Washing off the perming lotion comes next, and then your oh-so-delicate hairstrands are put in between two metal plates of electric styling device. Your hair would be pulled rod-straight using heat. To reset the bonds and stabilize the strands, neutralizer is applied. After the perming process, an irreversible alteration takes place- to your hair, that is. Chemical treatments weaken the hairshafts. It causes them to fracture more easily. Hairfall or thinning in massive amounts can result. And isn’t this contrary to what you want to achieve in the first place. Well-kept and shipshape straight hair which is supposed to make you beautiful. This is not to say that this happens all the time with rebonding, but there is always the risk. Many things have to be considered, such as the expertise and credibility of your hairstylist and the salon, and the quality of the chemicals and facilities used. What’s more, you’d need further rebonding after six months to maintain the touched-up look. More exposure to a rather dicey process, don’t you think. There are good points to rebonding, so it seems, but these are possible downsides which many women have experienced. It is inherent for women to want to be beautiful, and so do you. But perhaps you shouldn’t be so hasty in wanting to achieve it- it always pays to be cautious. About the author. Thu, 16 Oct 2008 08:30:39 +0200 Making Sure It’s An All- Natural Shampoo http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/natural-shampoo http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/natural-shampoo Everything is processed and manufactured these days. From the foods we eat, to the things we use on a regular basis. These things are convenient inasmuch as we think they deliver better results. Constantly we use and consume them, and often we are unaware of what possible harm these foods or products might cause us. After all, they may contain elements or substances which can be toxic. Every so often, it would be beneficial to take a reprieve from being constantly bombarded with chemicals and additives. To get back to the basics, and those which are of the essence- that of the natural. With the barrage of commercialized and processed goods in the market, natural products might have been overlooked. As much as we might have taken less notice of them, natural products often bring results that we need, more than want. For instance, the shampoo that we use. There is a trend for going natural these days, and many manufacturers want to get on the bandwagon. They may claim to produce natural shampoos for the purpose of profit, not necessarily for the consumers’ best interests. “Natural” shampoo products they may appear, but the results they deliver are the same as those of commercialized ones- with side effects. Commercialized shampoos have the possibility of irritating the skin and the scalp. These conditions can happen especially if the shampoo contains SLS and SLES. This is one matter you have to be mindful of if you want to ensure that the shampoo is indeed all natural. Looking at the label, an all natural shampoo will not contain SLS. SLS stands for sodium laurol sulfate. SLS is an additive, and its sole purpose is to ensure shampoo bubbles, or to form thick lather. Shampoo bubbles or thick lather do not guarantee that you hair will be clean. In fact, SLS is an additive also found in oven cleaners. It is a well-known additive as a skin irritant as well. Be wary of another ingredient- SLES- in the shampoo. SLES is somewhat similar to SLS. SLES may not be so much known as a skin irritant as SLES, but it causes another side effect- drying of the skin. To be able to get hold of an all- natural shampoo, make sure that SLS and SLES are not among its ingredients. Then there is PEG, another ingredient to be wary of. When found in a shampoo label, PEG is usually listed with a number behind it. PEG is also a potent skin irritant being one of the elements found in brake fluid. To determine if the shampoo you want to buy is indeed all natural, note if it has the term “fragrance” in the label. If it contains a fragrance, then that is not a natural shampoo. Fragrance is an artificially-derived chemical. Its purpose is for the shampoo to give off an aroma. Fragrance is again a skin irritant. This is not to say that an all natural shampoo does not have fragrance. It does, and the aroma is one which is fresh, mild and soothing. Natural shampoo is fragranced by essential oils, and this you have to consider if you want to guarantee that the product is authentic. Natural shampoos contain natural essences. These elements often blend and work with our bodies which are also natural. It is virtually impossible to avoid using commercialized products these days. The point is to limit and to pay attention to your health and beauty without significantly compromising your well-being. About the author. Wed, 30 Jul 2008 13:27:42 +0200 Hair Treatments: Being Kind And Gentle To Your Hair http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-treatments http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-treatments Soft, silky and beautiful hair is attractive. It definitely crowns a woman with glory. A woman can stand out with such feature. But having glorious hair often takes a lot of effort to have. Down from your state of health to the products that you use, you have to be mindful. If you want to achieve the best beauty results, then you have to be meticulous with the details. So it is with your haircare regimen. One of the worst beauty problems that you can encounter is damaged hair. Such dilemma may have been caused by several factors. It can be the weather- too much sun or wind. A certain product that you used. A beauty salon treatment mishap. Or it might even be how you have been treating your hair, such as too much blow drying. Damaged hair can be such a liability to your appearance. It can significantly alter your well-kept and radiant persona. And what are some hair treatments to deal with this beauty problem? Your first impulse might be to rush to the beauty salon to have all sorts of hair treatments. But before you give in to your impulse, relax. You don’t have to spend much for damaged hair treatments. What you are looking for might just be nearby, and in the convenience of your home at that. Yes, there are home hair treatments for your problem. For instance, you can try rinsing with beer right after shampooing. Or else, you can have it massaged with a mixture of avocadoes and bananas. Try working mayonnaise on it as well. Then cover with a cap for 30 minutes. And then you rinse. Then hot oil which is also one of the most common hair treatments. A host of hot oil products are actually available in drug stores and supermarkets. When making us of a hot oil treatment product, make sure that you are following the instructions properly. And after you are done, you’d have to rinse and wash your hair thoroughly. Before you find out which hot oil product would work best, you might have to shop around and sample a few. Then gentleness- this is also a recommended treatment. This one should in fact be the easiest to follow. Skip on the myth of 100-strokes-a-night deal. It will only cause more fracture to the strands resulting to further damage. You should also take it easy when it comes to blow drying. If you must, then keep the heat to a minimum. And when washing, be careful and be gentle. No need to scrub your hair unmercifully. Rather than scrubbing, a better option would be to massage. Massaging will actually help to stimulate oil glands in your scalp. As a result, there would be more moisture. This in turn will help nourish your hair and give it more vitality. When you shampoo, use your fingertips and don’t dig into the scalp. In this sense, you’d need to have finesse. It’s basically doing away with bullying your hair and giving it harsh treatments. Fragile as it is, your hair needs to be treated with kindness. Only then will it be kind to you in return by making you stand out with your beauty. About the author. Wed, 2 Jul 2008 14:44:28 +0200 Prevention Tips And Treatments For Baldness http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/baldness1 http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/baldness1 “Baldness” certainly is not a good word for many people. More so for those who suffer from this condition. The “bald look” may be sexy and trendy for some, but for others, it can be a misfortune. Something which makes them look unappealing which consequently dampens their self-esteem and confidence. You’re probably aware that baldness occurs more often in men than women, and this is true. This is usually common for middle aged men. When a person is said to go bald, there is loss of hair, partially or completely over the head. In medical terms, baldness is termed as alopecia. There are various types of this condition, in which male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia is the most common. Various factors can cause the hair to thin out. Common factors leading to hair loss are hormonal changes, stress and depression and genetic influences. Hair thinning can also occur due to certain medications, such as those for hypertension and cardiac-related diseases. The same thing for birth control pills in women- these can cause hair loss. Health-related issues leading to baldness can be malnutrition and skin diseases such as ringworm. Usage of chemicals can also cause the same problem. How can you prevent going bald? For one thing, you should avoid overexposure to the sun. It is one factor leading to hair loss. When using hair dryers, avoid getting them in close contact with your hair follicles. The same thing when using gels and creams- they shouldn’t be made to go deep into the follicles. It is also advisable to wash with shampoo after swimming. That way, chlorine will be removed and damage to the scalp would be prevented. As for a cure, there is none. There is yet no known cure for baldness, only treatments. Medications and treatments for baldness slow down the rate of thinning and promote the growth of new hairs. More often, treatments vary from one person to another and they are also dependent on the severity of the condition. Medications available for baldness include minoxidil, Anthralin as cream or ointment, Cortisone injection and finasteride which is yet not approved for women. These medications are effective in their own right, however there are usually side effects when using them. And then there is yet another drastic treatment for baldness- surgery. This hair loss treatment measure is done by performing a surgical procedure on the scalp and transplantation. Laser surgery and transplant have been found to be effective in the recent times. But then again, these drastic treatments entail a higher cost simply because they are expensive. If you are going bald and seeking for a solution to your dilemma, it’s best that you consult a dermatologist or a qualified professional. That way, your condition can be evaluated and a suitable treatment could be applied. Conventional treatments in the form of pharmaceuticals and surgery are available. In the same manner, there are also alternative therapies and remedies. Have yourself educated and informed on the options available for you. Through research and consulting the right people, you just might find an answer to your dilemma. About the author. Tue, 3 Jun 2008 10:59:08 +0200 Female Hair Loss And Some Treatments http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/female-hair-loss2 http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/female-hair-loss2 Hair loss can be so much of a dilemma, not only for men, but for women as well. But hair loss more often occurs in men, and so treatments are more focused on them. Indeed, there are countless of products promoting hair growth for the male populace. But what about women suffering from the condition? Female hair loss is as real as men’s problem of the same. Will treatments for men be effective for women as well? Or is there a different category of treatments made especially for female hair loss? It generally depends on the cause of the condition, or what instigated it. In most cases, the reasons causing the condition to both men and women are the same. In such cases, treatments for both genders would be more or less similar. The three most common causes of female hair loss are female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium and alopecia areata. For each of these conditions, there are recommended treatments. Female pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss among women. It is somewhat the same as male pattern baldness which results from reaction to male hormones in the body. A recommended treatment for such would be Rogaine, an FDA approved treatment for female hair loss. Rogaine may work for some, for others not. Another reason for this possibly disturbing cosmetic dilemma is telogen effluvium. Telogen effluvium causes the problem due to some traumatic events. Like for instance, in the event of pregnancy, female hair loss can happen. In this case, the best treatment would be time. Time would eventually allow the effects of the traumatic event to fade and the condition in itself will heal. Alopecia areata is also another cause in which bald areas in the head and other parts of the body manifest. Many facts have yet to be established pertaining to this condition. Possible treatments could be Rogaine, aloe vera, or simply time, a foremost natural healer. Some women consider propecia as treatment, however, it is not recommended. Propecia is rather more suitable for men, specifically male pattern baldness. These are three of the possible treatments. Many women with this problem can be in frantic search of a treatment. After all, it can cause so much of a cosmetic dilemma. Some would want to resort to chemical laden products, or natural products. And there are women who might consider natural or herbal remedies. What must be considered for a suitable treatment is safety and efficacy. Some treatments may be effective, but they might bring about side effects. A better option would even be treatments which deliver results yet entails no risks. A professional’s guidance can be resorted to in this sense. That way, one can gain expert opinion and advice. One can in fact be presented with a deluge of hair loss treatments and products in the internet. Some products sold in the internet are credible, provided that one makes sure that they are indeed credible. It takes time for research in order for one to get hold of the best product. And then again, expert opinion from a professional ought to be sought. About the author. Thu, 15 May 2008 14:05:34 +0200 Adding Luster And Shine To Your Long Hair http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/long-hair1 http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/long-hair1 Long hair usually makes a woman stand out, especially when it looks silky and shiny. The hair can do so much to the image that a person wants to project. When it is dry, coarse and unkempt, it certainly will not give a good impression. It may be an indication that a person is not mindful of their appearance and that they are untidy. Worse if one has smelly and dirty hair. It would certainly mean that one disregards their hygiene. The hair speaks a lot, as many people can attest. And so you should make it a point that your hair gives off an appealing and attractive statement about you. This is especially true of your long hair, which generally takes a lot of time and effort to care for. Yes, the issue is primarily about haircare and what you should keep in mind about it. First, think about the problems that you might encounter when it comes to your long hair. Why do beauty dilemmas such as these take place? Take note of your health and your nutrition. If you have health problems, chances are your hair won’t look healthy, too. It might become dry, coarse and brittle. The same goes when you have poor nutrition. Perhaps you’ve been going on a diet and you’ve been skipping meals. This will affect your hairhealth. Drying and brittleness as well as lack of shine and luster can be your problem. Worse, there could be breakage, too. Breakage on the other hand can lead to your hair looking uneven. Much more, you can have split ends. You know how unsightly split ends are, right? So to take care of your hairhealth and to look fabulous, take care of your health in general. Stick to a healthy diet and refrain from bad habits such as drinking and smoking. Then there are of course, the products that you use- your shampoo and conditioner. To be able to choose the right products, it’s best that you consult an expert. They would be able to tell you which shampoo or product would suit your needs. This is basically dependent on the kind of damage. For this means, you might have to spend some amount. After all, it’s necessary that the expert you consult is a professional. That way, you’d get the best and most appropriate advice to care for your long hair. For proper maintenance, you ought to have regular trimming as well. Trimming is especially important when split ends begin to appear. When it comes to your shampoo, make it a point that it goes with a good conditioner. Again, it would be better to seek expert advice for this. A professional would be able to suggest which product will be suited for your hairtype and needs. Don’t be easily swayed by products which are expensive or look attractive. Or just grab anything that gets your attention from the shelf. Have your hairtype and damage examined by an expert, and seek professional opinion as to what the most suited products are. It all goes down to how conscientious you are of your beauty regimen. When it comes to beauty, remember that it is not limited to beauty products alone. Beauty has to do with health, and health can do so much for beauty. Health and beauty then should be a lifestyle. About the author. Thu, 24 Apr 2008 09:59:10 +0200 Choosing The Right Shampoo For Healthy, Silky Hair http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/shampoo http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/shampoo Everybody wants to have smooth, silky and beautiful hair. But many things can get in the way of having it. For one thing, you may not be using the right shampoo. There are many and all sorts of shampoos in the market today. But then again, many might not stand true to their claims, or can even be damaging. This could be owing to their ingredients- they might be chemically laden and are harsh. Remember that when you are using the wrong shampoo, your hair might become dry. Or worse, it can result to hair loss. Different shampoo manufacturers generally have their own formulas. If the product works well for your hair, then you can feel the freshness that it delivers. But on the other hand, if it is not suitable, it can result to hair loss. If you find that a shampoo doesn’t suit you well, it’s best that you stop using it. You may be sensitive to one of its ingredients, thus you don’t get the results that you want. Following are some tips on shampoos and which would be appropriate. Ads for shampoos can rather be confusing. It’s not really the expensive ones which truly stand true to their claims. A cheap and expensive product can deliver the same results. Making the right choice can mean that you will gain the best advantages. Take note of the ingredients stated in the label. Remember that extracts are not the same as an essence. Extracts are those substances which have natural sources. They are the shampoos’ elements which have active ingredients. Essences on the other hand are just the same smell of the extracts. Essences may not necessarily give the same results as extracts. The more extracts a shampoo has, the more expensive it usually is. You can use a mild product for everyday washing. That way, you can keep your scalp clean and you would get no irritation. For this purpose, try a natural shampoo. Such an option would be better than using a strong antidandruff product every two or three days. This can be damaging to your hair in the long run. Using an antidandruff product for the long term can cause scalp dryness. This in turn can result to dry skin falling as white particles. Washing daily with a natural shampoo is advisable. And if ever you would use an antidandruff product, do so only twice a week in between normal shampoos. And make sure that your natural shampoo is suited for daily use. There are natural products which may have strong extracts. Shampoos are for cleaning the hair while conditioners are for gluing the thin layer on your hair. To maximize the effect of your conditioner, use it separately rather than as 2 in 1 products. Conditioners are to be used only on your hair and not on your scalp. If you are not able to thoroughly wash the conditioner from your scalp, it can be itchy. For a clean and healthy scalp, use the right shampoo. Choose the suitable product and your hair will be clean, smooth, silky and healthy as well. About the author. Mon, 7 Apr 2008 05:49:09 +0200 Hair Color That Suits Your Needs And Pleasure http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-color1 http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-color1 The hair can make or break the persona that one wants to exude. When it is unkempt and dry and messy, it can create the impression that one is negligent. Worse if it is smelly and dirty as it would indicate that one is not mindful of their hygiene. But on a positive note, the hair can make a good impression. With the right style and cut, one can stand out with it. More so if the hair is healthy, smooth and silky. It can make one glow, and especially with the perfect hair color. One may well be able to notice the difference hair color can make. When the coloring is well-suited, it can emphasize one’s skin tone. It can also bring out one’s facial assets, thus they become more noticeable. But how can one determine which color would suit them right? Primarily, one has to find out what their coloring needs are. Would the coloring just be temporary, or for a longer time? And if they want it for a longer time, then how long? For instance, one needs temporary hair color for an occasion. Or perhaps just to cater to their mood for the moment. Then temporary coloring could be the answer for this. Temporary coloring is more often an acid based formula and designed to only coat the strand. It does not go deeper and penetrate into the shaft. This sort of coloring can be washed out after a few shampoos. Then there is semipermanent coloring. This coloring option can be had longer than the temporary one. Formulas for this have smaller molecules which soak into the shaft. However, they do not contain a developer unlike the permanent formulas. If one wants coloring that lasts for a few months, then they might consider demipermanent hair color. Dyes of this sort use color cream with developer thus they last longer. This would be suitable for covering grey hair. After selecting the length of time one wants to keep their dye, then they might want to consider whether to use a natural or chemical based product. As for natural colorants, they typically create a temporary tint. Some of the natural tints which can be used are henna, tea and cranberry juice. Natural colorants are often more gentle to the hair and skin, although they may not stay for a longer time. Chemical based colorants on the other hand can be found in do-it-yourself kits. Beauty salons also have them, if one wants to take that option. Then one should well decide which color would suit their taste and pleasure. And more so their features, or even personality. For hair color ideas, one can look in magazines for pictures of models and celebrities. They can then look for celebrities with the same skin tone and similar features as them. They can look for ideas of which color they have on and perhaps consider it. One can also ask for a stylist’s or cosmetologist’s opinion for the most appropriate base color and highlight. Wed, 19 Mar 2008 10:40:05 +0100 Put A Natural Stop To Male Pattern Baldness http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/male-pattern-baldness http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/male-pattern-baldness The case may be that bald is “in” and sexy for men these days. Well, it can be if the “look” fits. But more often, being bald does not look pleasing. But many men suffer from hair loss or thinning, and it can lead to that bald look. In fact, 3 out 5 males are said to experience some forms of it throughout their lives- hairloss. The cosmetic and health dilemma is quite all too common. Such is why there are countless of products available in the market for it. They are treatments which claim to remedy the problem of male pattern baldness. But many of them don’t stand true according to their claims. And there are prescription drugs as well. But then again, they are pharmaceutical products, and inherent to them are side effects. And these prescription drugs for male pattern baldness, they have a significant downside. That is, they may have consequences on a man’s sexual functions as side effects. It’s one thing to suffer from male pattern baldness. But it certainly is another thing to have diminished sexual potency. And both are major men’s health issues. It certainly is not good to remedy a problem while causing another one. Is that solution in its real sense? And there are infomercials as well. They take up late night channel space and they claim to promote a cure to baldness. But where do they most often lead to? Empty pockets and broken promises, that’s where. So what is the best means then to put a stop to male pattern baldness? But first, some insights as to why hairloss happens. For one thing, certain medications can cause it. Among them are hormone and thyroid medicines. Then there are hair procedures such as perming, tinting and dyeing. They can cause damage to the hair follicles. And so baldness can take place because of them. So it is with certain shampoos. So are they hair care as they should be? But there is yet one known major factor leading to male pattern baldness. And that is the hormone DHT or dihydrotestosterone. How can DHT instigate hair loss? Men and women, they all contain different DHT levels in their bodies. When DHT combines with hair follicle receptor cells, this is where the problem begins. It weakens the follicles until the hair starts falling out. DHT can affect any part of the scalp, but more often, it targets the hairline areas. But there are alternative means to putting a stop to male pattern baldness. These alternative means are in the form of natural remedies. For instance, saw palmetto- it has been known for its potent natural properties. Saw palmetto does not only promote better prostate health but it also blocks DHT production in the body. Then there is the supplement biotin. It can aid in preventing hairloss as well. Recommended dosage for biotin for this purpose is 3000mcg daily. And also olive oil, it would be helpful for hairloss. Not only is it good for cooking, but it can stimulate hair regrowth. These are but few of the natural measures for male pattern baldness. They can be effective and yet with minimal or no side effects at that. About the author. Mon, 3 Mar 2008 13:50:05 +0100 The Dilemma Of Hair Loss For Men And Women http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-loss2 http://www.healthzine.org/Hair-loss/hair-loss2 It may be upsetting when you see strands of their tresses on the floor or tangled in your brush. But it happens- and people lose their hair for many reasons. The thought of it can bother you- going bald. After all, your hair is your crowning glory and emphasizes your appearance. Yes, it could make or break how you look. It happened to me before - I suffered from hair loss, and I asked myself “Why is my hair falling out?” What are the causes of baldness which can bring about this upsetting condition? First thing, it’s not merely men who can suffer from getting bald. Women can, too, as in the case of androgenetic alopecia, or female pattern alopecia or baldness. What are the possible causes of female baldness? Baldness among men and women can be genetic or hormonal. These are the primary causes of this condition. So when baldness runs in your family, there may be chances that you’ll have your tresses thin out, too. As for the hormonal causes of the condition, it’s often due to an imbalance. Yes, an imbalance of the hormones androgen and estrogen often cause one to go bald. Let’s go back to female pattern alopecia or female baldness. Women go through much hormonal changes such as during pregnancy and menopause. During these times, they can suffer from almost like getting bald. When a woman is going on a diet, this may happen, too. Especially when she lacks nutrition. This could happen to men as well. And stress, this can also cause one to go bald. After all, when the body is stressed, hormonal fluctuations take place. Baldness can also be due to medications that one is taking. This could be one of the side effects of the medications. To remedy the condition, one can ask their doctor for an alternative. Facts have been established about hair loss, although many things are yet unknown. For one thing, it has been established that 95% of cases of this condition are due to genetic factors. Not much could be done about this, but hair growth treatment measures can work. As many people suffer from the said condition, many treatment products and procedures have been devised. And finally, another cause of hair loss is an illness. For one thing, there is cancer, the dreaded disease. Deadly as it is, it can be a cause of one going bald, too. Much more if they go through chemotherapy. With all these said, it’s possible to treat and prevent baldness. One should take time being healthy, as undernourishment could cause the condition. Stress should also be prevented or alleviated. As for an illness, it takes treatment of it as an underlying cause of hair loss. The thought of getting bald can cause distress, especially if it becomes severe. So it takes you being mindful of yourself and your health to prevent it. Otherwise, you can resort to treatments and procedures. It does take exigent efforts, but this condition can be remedied.
