I think everyone have experienced having skin burns at least once in their life. But would you know what to do or the remedies in case someone just did?

Keep in mind; don’t apply anything on it right away. Run your skin burn under running water of slightly cool temperature for at least 20 minutes first then you can do these helpful tips.

DON’T put ice on it or it will make it hurt and even worse after you removed it from the wound. It also does harm to the skin area surrounding the burn. Also if skin burns are on extremities, meaning hand or feet, better elevate them so to reduce inflammation.

Toothpaste they say is a good remedy for treating minor skin burns. Though, there are a lot of opinions about this. Some say it does work well for some, a no no. To those who have tried it and agree that it is indeed helpful, said that it has a cooling effect which makes you feel better. But I would only recommend using it if the burn is very minor and closed. I would not recommend toothpaste for an open wound because it will result to having blisters.

Milk is also a good remedy for treating minor burns. Just simply soak the affected skin area in cold whole milk for approximately 20 minutes and it will bring about instant relief. What’s more, the fat content in whole milk helps the wound heal faster.

We mustn’t forget the Aloe Vera. Just slice off a small piece of the fleshy leaf, open it, and then apply the fresh sap directly on the skin burn. Aloe Vera has astringent and tissue-healing properties so it works fabulous for skin burns.

Also, the Vinegar, which is luckily available nearly in all households. Simply cover the injured area with a cloth, soaked in diluted vinegar of any kind. The vinegar acts painkilling and relaxing.

You can also use honey or lavender oil. Just cover the skin burns with it. Researchers found out that burns dressed with honey healed faster and with less pain and scarring. As with Lavender, it is a very effective antiseptic, and is also pain killing. For larger burns, Lavender oil should be poured neat onto a cloth or gauze, and applied to the burn, and then just renew it every few hours.

If blisters occur, do not break it because it will cause further damage. They are nature’s protective coating. Doing so might cause infection. Better put antimicrobial creams to prevent it. Also, if you have put dressings onto it make sure that you change it often enough.

Those are only a few first aid for minor skin burns but if you do have some suggestions feel free to share it here.
When should you call a doctor--- mild skin burns need medical treatment if they cover a large area or are very painful. Also, if it’s on your face, hands, feet, genital area, joint areas or the area affected is larger than your hand. Additionally, see a doctor if the victim has a fever, chills, is vomiting or has swollen glands; or if the site of the burns smells nasty or leaks pus.

Overall, there maybe more remedies for burns than what I have mentioned but it’s always best to prevent having them especially with children. Who knows what worst could happen. About the author. Dr. Rose Windale is a successful Health & Wellness Coach who has been advising and coaching individuals for many years. Mon, 27 Jul 2009 09:54:45 +0200 Free Health Care For Everyone http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/free-health-care-tips http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/free-health-care-tips Summer is here! It is in this particular time that we appreciate the beauty of the flowers. It is in this time that the weather is perfect for strolling in the park, having picnics and families gather together for a barbeque, with the kids playing on the sides. It is in this time that the weather is perfect, the food is fresh and people are active and happy. But my heart is saddened in knowing that there are people who think that supplements can make them build a healthy body and good health care, not realizing that supplements can’t do everything. You see, supplements are good, because it can boost your immune system, but it alone cannot give you the total health care that you need, more over supplements cannot win over a person’s unhealthy lifestyle and unhealthy diet. But thankfully some of the most important things that we can do to our body are absolutely free. And summer brings those important things in focus. This is free health care during the summer. Fun under the sun: Having fun under the sun with your family is a great way to bond and a good health care activity. But unconsciously we also get vitamin D under it. With regards to Vitamin D deficiency, the human body will experience muscle pain, irregular sleeping patterns, low immunity to diseases, low energy and always feeling fatigued. Sunshine is the most effective source of Vitamin D, and the best part of it is that it does not cost a cent. Now if you’re living in places like Asia or the southern climes all you need to have is 15 – 20 minutes of sunlight and this will let your body produce all the daily Vitamin D it needs. Now for people who live where in places that sunlight is a bit scarce, like the northern part, you can enjoy the sun during the warmer months. It is also advised that you eat fish, which is rich in Vitamin D. This will benefit you best when you’re inside your home the whole winter. This is giving yourself the proper home care that your body needs. Drink a good amount of water. Studies show that drinking water keeps the blood from getting thick, and can lower the risk of heart diseases which is very fatal. Surprisingly studies have found out that other fluids do not have the same effect as that of water. So while at home give yourself the proper home health care by drinking plenty of water. Lastly water is also important for our lymph system, which is our body’s way or removing toxins. Now how much water should you take? The answer to this varies on the size of the person’s body, your daily activities and the climate where you are located. According to The National Academy of Sciences, the human body should drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day. With regards to the health care of intense exercisers, the fluid replacement of these people is another matter. It is advised that the athlete should work with a trainer, so as to determine his fluid needs. For intense exercisers, fluid replacement is another matter and varies according to the sport. Any athlete should work with a trainer to determine fluid needs before, during and after exercise. Lastly get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep is a good health home care. The reason for this is; lack of sleep at night is associated with increased risk of diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. An adequate sleep will help your insulin sensitivity and thus lower the risk of insulin resistance and diabetes. Sleep also has added benefits with regards to controlling your weight. Therefore give yourself the health care that you deserve. Reward yourself with this free health care tips and experience the bliss of being healthy. About the author. Wed, 13 May 2009 07:10:25 +0200 A Healthy Home Means Better Living And A Healthy You http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/keep-a-healthy-home http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/keep-a-healthy-home It’s your home, a place you dwell in, a place you have to live with. Whether it takes you well, or if it is well “welcoming” for you, it depends on you. It’s how livable you make your abode which determines whether you are cozy or comfortable in it. Or functional, or happy, or healthy. A healthy home- perhaps you shouldn’t undermine its significance. And perhaps you shouldn’t take for granted how vital “healthy” is in general. You might have gotten sick or ill at some points, and you know how discomforting it is harboring an illness. And if you happen to be unmindful of tending to your house well, then it could virtually make you sick. Ever heard of a “sick” building? It can apply to your living place as well. It means it can make you sick. When it comes to a “sick” house, the problem might primarily have to do with indoor air pollution. With this particular concern (indoor air pollution) health issues such as allergic reactions could arise. Allergic reactions are common for sensitive individuals, or those with a weakened immune system. If you are hypersensitive or else suffering from allergies, then it’s in your best interest to avoid sources of indoor pollution. Elements causing indoor pollution usually have to do with materials of your home construction, and the ventilation. To keep ward off pollutants, take note of your house’s heating system. Dust and mold might have accumulated in the furnace ducts. Mite feces and mold spores could spread all over the place once the air blows. That’s a minus towards you having a healthy home. To prevent this particular problem, have the ducts cleaned at least once a year. When you notice your sinuses getting stuffed up whenever the furnace is on, then the duct cleaning would be well useful, and needed. Another dilemma is laminate cupboards, counter tops and floorings. Particles of these constructions are preserved and held together by formaldehyde and adhesives. These substances give off toxic fumes. “Toxic” that it is, it basically takes the healthy home setting out of the picture. No more healthy home it is for you because the fumes can give rise to headaches and a diminished immune system functioning. If you have new carpets, the same problem can take place- giving way to the fumes. In addition, more dust gathers within your home area. Envision a healthy home scenario — opt for natural flooring such as wood or tile instead. For the cupboards, you can prefer those made of real wood rather than pressed board. A healthy home- create the ideal by minding your new drapes and living room furniture. Upholstery fabrics are often treated by chemical additives. If you experience headaches, then the flame retardant and resistant chemicals could be the culprits. To deal with this issue, purchase from manufacturers with products containing safer, less toxic flame retardants, especially if you are hypersensitive. For painting concerns, or if you’re painting your house, use low VOC paints. VOC means volatile organic compounds, which are also toxic. Choose paints with low VOC, and are therefore less toxic. But then again, if you must use these materials in your home, you can still keep a healthy home. Your abode can be as conducive for health as it can be if it is well-ventilated. Let the air move freely in your home and air breathable at that. Breathe air which keeps you healthy, and you become healthy. This makes a healthy home. About the author. Mon, 17 Nov 2008 09:47:08 +0100 There’s More To Teaching Kids Good Housekeeping http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/good-housekeeping http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/good-housekeeping Some people venture into having families and raising kids just for the sake of it. Perhaps they are of “age” to do so, or some may think that they are capable of having partners and producing offsprings together. And because they think they are financially capable and can “provide”, then it is the right time. Then they get married and start off with their own life. What comes next after a union is more often having children. “Having kids” as it is fondly called. And kids are a delight indeed, often thought of as little angels in the house. Children are delicate and fragile, as much as they may have so much energy to move around. As parents, our initial instinct is to protect them to the point that we may overdo it. You simply love your kids and the last thing you wound want to do is cause them the slightest discomfort. It is not surprising why parents pamper their kids. But sometimes, too much pampering will do our kids less good than what we might think. Let’s say you have such an adorable little tyke that all you’d want to do is give him all of life’s comforts. But parenting is more than that. Part of good parenting is teaching your child to be responsible. Molding a responsible adult most often starts with molding a responsible child. It doesn’t necessarily mean that you should send your child to finishing school at an early age. The most conducive setting to train him is none other than the home. Training a child to be responsible can begin with teaching him trivial things such as housekeeping. Teaching your child good housekeeping is more often not merely for the sake of keeping your house clean and tidy. But rather, it is a way for your and your child to bond. And while you are bonding, you become functional and productive. Teaching your child good housekeeping will teach him many values. Other than inculcating a sense of responsibility, you allow him to experience the satisfaction of having achieved something on his own. Other than that, your little angel would become aware of the value of organization and cleanliness. You can point out to him or her why an organized room or house is better. Perhaps you can say it wouldn’t be so hard looking for Dressy Daisy or his Helmet Heroes brigade once everything is put in place. Most of all, you can emphasize one of the most important benefits of good housekeeping in the most basic terms- that it will make your child feel better. When you de clutter your house, you also de clutter your mind. This is applicable to you as an adult, and so it is to your child. Make your little angel aware of this fact at the delicate age where he or she is receptive to what you have to say. You actually don’t have to appear grandstanding to your kids in teaching them good values. Be your child’s best buddy, and instill worthwhile guidelines according to his or her own pace and language. Bonding with your children does not necessarily mean that you go to a theme park or eat out at a fancy fast food restaurant. Your home where you and your child are most at ease is oftentimes the best place to learn. Parenting is actually a two-way street. You may think that as the parent you have the sole authority to teach. But even as you look at your child in his fragile, unassuming state, you learn something which only a true parent would know. Fri, 7 Nov 2008 08:18:02 +0100 You Need A Family Doctor- Find A Good One http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/family-doctor http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/family-doctor Doctors. They aren’t necessarily kind to us at times, but we need them. You’re not feeling well or might be tormented by an ailment. Who do you call to bring you deliverance? The doctor- whether you like it or not. This is how crucial a medical professional is to our lives, specifically a doctor. But not to malign such professionals, it more often depends on us whether our “doctor experience” will be worthwhile or otherwise. After all, we are left with the choice of finding our own health care practitioner. There is no law which states that you have to see a particular doctor if you don’t like them. By all means, choose the one which you most prefer- you have the liberty to do so. This article aims on giving you some basic guidelines. A family doctor is one of the most important individuals in a person’s life. When you’re not feeling quite right, you call your family doctor. You may need to go to a hospital for emergency care, but eventually your family doctor will be taken into the picture. They will most likely do follow-up visits and care until you are completely treated. That is the significance of such a person in your life. The first thing you have to consider is that he/she should be interested in your health, whether in or outside the office. Your healthcare provider may not be on call at all hours particularly just for you. But you have to take into account that you aren’t just a number to them. This is a vital factor towards a doctor-patient relationship. As a patient, you need to feel that you can trust your healthcare professional, and that they sincerely care for your health. One way of finding a good healthcare provider is to have the one your parents had. But supposing you moved away. How will you be able to find a medical professional who would give your health due priority? Perhaps you can ask for a recommendation from your old family doctor. They can refer you to a colleague in the area you moved into. That way, you can gain a certain recognition from your new healthcare provider. If it is unlikely that you can get a recommendation, search the internet for a list of family doctors in your new location. Or esle, you can look for the nearest clinic for better prospects. Referral services online can also help you in the endeavor. You can look online for your community, specifically for its chamber of commerce website. They have a listing of doctors as well, and you can choose from selected options already. But you may be limited with your options if you happen to have HMO insurance. You primarily have to check if your preferred family doctor is in their list. And if indeed you have found a medical professional to your initial liking, go to their clinic and test the waters. See if you like them perhaps by asking their services. Or during what hours they are around. If you have a spouse or children, it is important that they like the doctor, too. On your visit, how long did they see you? When performing exams, were they thorough? See how knowledgeable or caring your “preferred” healthcare provider is. Does it take a month till you can finally see them after you made an appointment? And when finally in the clinic, how long do you have to wait? Would you like it if you have to wait for half a day until you get a verdict for the state of your health? All these and more are to be taken into account in choosing a family doctor. More than convenience and congenial relation, the best gain you may ever have is your life once you have made the best choice. About the author. Tue, 30 Sep 2008 09:27:29 +0200 House Plants To Enliven Your Home http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/house-plants1 http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/house-plants1 Your home should be a place of warmth and comfort. And if you live alone, it is the ultimate place where you can be yourself. Living alone has its advantages as well as disadvantages. If you live alone, you get to gain control of how you want to live and in managing your household. But then again, “alone” literally means “without company”, and for some people, this may seem like a disadvantage. This does not have to be the case, especially if you find yourself other “companions”. By this, you can have a pet, or else tend house plants, or rather “live” house plants. Plants give off life, or the warmth and feel of life. So even if there is no other person or people living with you, in essence, there is something “alive” living with you - in the form of house plants. And just as you would with a pet or another companion, you have to take care of your house plants. How is it to take care of house plants? Care and attention are needed by these living things in order to thrive. As you have chosen to “adopt” and tend to them, this is required of you. Attend to your house plants on a daily and regular basis and care for them, and you will feel their appreciation as they share “life” with you. Make sure that you do what is within your means to enhance their successful growth. In the first place, if you plan on buying house plants, you might as well plan well. Buy them at the right time of the year. For instance, if you buy a plant during cold or close to freezing weather, you risk putting it to shock. In the same manner, you can possibly cause the plant to die if you buy it during summer and then leave it in the car or outside for too long. And then sunlight, a vital ingredient to life. You have to ensure that you are giving the right amount of it to your plant. Your “home companion” may need direct or indirect sunlight, and this you should not deprive it of. Remember, too little or too much may cause your house plant to die. So get to know the nature of your house plant and the amount of sunlight it needs. Aside from sunlight, take into account the temperature- it has to be conducive for its growth. Your “living companion” needs the most suitable environment to sustain its life and growth. This again you have to provide. Make your plant comfortable in its environment, make your home its home. What goes with temperature is the humidity of the environment. Allow your plants to grow with proper temperature and humidity. Most of all, there is water, or watering your house plants. Water is among the basic nourishment for plants. Give it to them in the right amounts and at the right time. In the same manner as you need food, your plants need water. House plants are living things, and as you have decided to welcome them in your home, you take responsibility. They may be mere plants as others may think, but they have life. This life you have to nurture. In doing so, you may even nurture yours. About the author. Thu, 31 Jul 2008 10:55:07 +0200 Tips To Consider When Buying A House http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/buying-a-house http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/buying-a-house “This is my house” – these words are sweet. When you finally utter them while looking at a home which you can call your own. But before being in that situation, you have to give it more thought. There are several things to consider before buying a house and having your own home. You may now be at a point when you think to yourself that buying a house is what you really want. You might have been renting an apartment for quite some time now, while your friends have all been buying houses. And they’ve settled down to a nice, quiet suburban lifestyle. The thought that you should be doing the same thing might have come over you. And to put added pressure, you hear in the news cast every other evening of the rapidly increasing value of houses in your area. So is this it, and is it finally the time? Buying a house may be what you want, but ask yourself if it is what you need to be doing at the moment. It’s better that you stop and decide before rushing out and buying the first house you can get a loan for. First thing that you have to consider is how long you will be living there. Take into account the job that you are currently having. Does it require you to move frequently? If you are sure you won’t be in the same city in the next five years, then buying a house may not be viable. Real estate prices can be unpredictable, and they go down. If you have to move and sell your house, you might sell it at a loss. And what about flipping- are you a flipper? By flipping, it is the art of buying a house. You stay in the house for some time, fix it and have it improved, and then you move and sell it for a profit. Then you do the same with another one. You may be thinking of profit all along, but note that there are risks involved. Resale value may go down, and what you’ll get instead is a loss. If you would want to consider yourself as a flipper, make sure that you buy a home you’ll be staying in for the next ten years. Often you’d think that owning a house is cheaper than renting. Consider all the costs to make sure if renting really is more expensive than owning. One of the reasons of you buying a house might be to have less cash flow each month. If so, take a stock of all the costs of ownership. This includes maintenance, mortgage, insurance and snow removal among others. If your calculations state that owning would be more cost effective than renting, then go for it. Take the first step. Owning a house might be what you really want even though it won’t make economic sense. It can be an emotionally charged experience when you set out to buy a home. Other than that, it can also drain your resources enormously. So do your homework and think of the points stated above before you embark on this endeavor. If you think you are ready to move into another stage of your life, carefully consider the pros and cons, both personally and practically. When you’ve finally taken the final step, make sure that you are confident about your decision. Only then can you be proud to say “This is my house”. About the author. Thu, 3 Jul 2008 15:04:44 +0200 Alternative And Conventional Remedies For Cold Sores http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/cold-sores http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/cold-sores It is important that a disease or condition is remedied during the early stages. That way, there are more chances that it can be treated. The importance of early treatment is not to be undermined. Sometimes it spells the difference between complete recovery or a worsening and chronic condition. Take the case of cold sores, known to be caused by the herpes simplex virus. Recognizing an impending cold sore outbreak would be helpful to apply an effective treatment. When you are observant and notice the first signs of the outbreak, it would be an advantage. As soon as you are aware of these signs, you ought to apply treatment. Early treatment for cold sores can lessen the impact the virus can cause. An early sign of an impending cold sore outbreak is often a tingling sensation on the area where the outbreak will later appear. This tingling sensation is because of the herpes simplex virus awakening from its dormant state. The awakened virus is now starting to move on to the surface of the skin. The virus normally inhabits the nerve cells but it is beginning to wreak its havoc on to the surface. Once the virus infects the skin, it starts breaking down the skin cells. And so blisters would begin to appear. These small blisters would combine and then eventually burst. Scabs form and it may take several more days until they heal. When they fall away, healthy skin is left underneath. Treatment should be applied on the infected area as soon as possible. Doing so will minimize the harm caused by the virus. Various options are available for treating cold sores. There are alternative treatments in the form of natural remedies, and there are conventional methods, too. Pharmaceutical products are one of them. These cold sore treatments would be able to fight the virus off. Its amount would be reduced and it would be prevented from replicating. And so lesser damage can be caused. Rapid ice treatment applied directly on to the skin can prevent the blisters from appearing. In this manner, the infected area can be soothed. This ice treatment comes rather easy. All you have to do is take an ice cube and then hold it against the skin for 30 minutes. That’s the simple trick of it and the cold sores can be soothed. A tea bag application is also another natural remedy. Not only will it soothe, but will also fight the virus. Or a combination remedy would do. Have the tea bag frozen and then apply it on to the lesion for 30 minutes. With this remedy, you get the benefits of the cold and the tannic acid from the tea. As for conventional remedies, viroxyn could be an option, or another similar product. Again, this treatment ought to be applied early following the instructions or your doctor’s advice. These are the possible options for treatments of cold sores. Not only is knowing them important, but recognizing that they should be applied early is as essential. About the author. As you can monitor your blood pressure, you can have an accurate data to present to your doctor. It means then that your condition can easily be managed. When there is an onslaught of hypertension, you can take measures and seek help as necessary. But remember that a monitor alone is not the sole solution to your problem. The monitor is only a machine which measures. But to keep your blood pressure under control depends on you. The monitor would need your cooperation for it to give a normal reading. And don’t make the habit of chronically checking your readings now and then. Set aside a fixed time table and a regular chart for it. You may be among the rising number of hypertensive patients all over the world. For this populace, blood pressure monitors can come in handy. As the number of hypertensive patients increase, so are the number of kinds, models and brands of monitors. There are monitors ranging from the affordable to the expensive. Affordable ones can range from $25 and the costly ones to as much as $300. Monitor models can be manual, electric or battery operated. Many features could be enjoyed especially from the costly ones. There are models which give a signal when a heartbeat is missed. As sale promotion items, accessories like a note pad and a carrying case may go with the monitor. But having a blood pressure monitor in your keeping doesn’t mean that you are completely safe. Again, it is merely a tool which does the measurement. You as the patient is responsible in managing your condition. Along with a healthy lifestyle, the machine will only cooperate. About the author. Tue, 8 Apr 2008 06:03:53 +0200 The Need For Nurses Doing Home Nursing Jobs http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/nursing-jobs http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/nursing-jobs There is a rising trend towards the need for home health care. People are generally becoming busier as everybody needs to make a living. Such is why when there is a debilitated family member, assistance is needed. By this assistance, it may mean that of a health professional’s, or a homecare professional. And then again, such is why homehealth care professionals and services are increasingly becoming more in demand. Being a homehealth care professional is among the most lucrative and promising career choices of the time. One aspect of homecare giving is home nursing jobs. By this, it means nursing jobs being rendered at home, to an incapacitated or disabled person. Such services are provided to those who require personalized patient care. Nurses doing the services often have to mingle with the patient’s other family members. In fact, they may already be considered as family members themselves. Within the scope of home nursing jobs is giving periodic services to the patient in their own home. Possible patients for this vocation are the elderly, those suffering from illnesses and accidents, incapacitated patients, and those resting after childbirth. Parents who are unable to take care of their children due to their jobs and other occupations may also hire home nurses. Other than providing care and services, these nurses have become close friends as well. After all, parents and relatives entrust their family member to them. The main responsibility in home nursing jobs is to tend to the patient’s health needs and problems. Basing on the needs and the condition, the nurse often devises nursing care plans. There are other responsibilities as well which are entailed of the nurse. Like for instance, specialized homecare and supportive long-term for patients of all ages. The elderly often benefits from home nursing as they are able to obtain companionship from the nurse. High dependency nursing can be one of their basic needs at this point, and nurses can provide it. The nurse delivers on other routine jobs such as checking for the pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiration rate and the patient’s medications. Home nurses work relatively independently, and in this respect, they have more responsibility. More and more nurses are in demand not only in hospitals, but for homehealth care, too. Quite a number of nursing agencies now offer home nursing jobs. Often, these agencies render services through their staff of experienced home nurses. They can provided quality health care to patients confined in the home. When a family opts to hire the services of such agencies, there are factors to consider. One is to determine whether the agency is Medicare-certified. And there are certain websites which list the opportunities for home nursing jobs. Nurses who wish to avail of such opportunities have to keep up with the needed requirements. They have to at least have a homecare or homecare related experience. In the hustle and bustle and stress of everyday living, other family members have to cope on their own. They often earn their keep for the family and may not be able to attend to a debilitated family member as much as they want to. This is where home nurses come in- to render care and assistance which countless of households have found useful. About the author. Thu, 20 Mar 2008 13:31:50 +0100 Ensuring Safety With A Home First Aid Kit http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/first-aid-kit http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/first-aid-kit Anybody and everybody are prone to accidents. Accidents can happen any time and anywhere, and who knows what consequences they may instigate. It can vary from a minor scrape or bruise, to a major injury, and yes, death. One may be particularly very careful, but the possibility of an accident is still present. In such a case, it is best to take precautions or to be prepared. A mishap can happen even in the home, and tools and measures for instances like this are necessary. Among these tools and measures is a first aid kit. A first aid kit would not only come in handy, but it can make a significant difference, even saving a life. With a home first aid kit, treatment can immediately be applied in case of an emergency. And early treatment can prove to be beneficial in so many ways. What should be kept in mind when keeping a first aid kit at home? For a home with small children, such a kit would be very helpful. It just might be there at the right time. Injury can happen to anyone at home. In such an instance, an older child would need to call for help. Inside the kit then should be a list of contact numbers, or a detailed emergency contact list. Among theses are the phone numbers of community emergency services like 911. The same can be said with the fire department, the police, the local poison control center and numbers of the family doctor and pediatrician. It would also be helpful to include friends and relatives’ numbers, especially those who can help in a serious emergency. It is necessary to note as well whatever medications the family members are taking, or medical conditions that they might be suffering from. The first aid kit should be regularly stocked, and the medicines kept up to date. There ought to be a list for this in the same manner. When certain medications become expired, they must be discarded. All these are best noted on a list and kept in a plastic report cover inside the kit. What is the best container for first aid tools? One that is portable and made of durable material is recommended. It would be kept inside the home, so it’s not necessary that it is waterproof. Even an art box, or a plastic tackle box, or a tote bag, they can be excellent containers. It has to be kept out of reach of young children, yet accessible to older ones and adults. Necessary tools for it are triangular bandages and bandages of various sizes, adhesive tape and gauze. The same can be said with tweezers, scissors, hydrogen peroxide, antihistamine, cough medicine, decongestant, antiseptic ointment and wipes, safety pins and instant activating cold packs. Along with this kit kept at home, it would also be very helpful if courses in first aid are taken. CPR must be learnt as well, and so is the Heimlich maneuver. It always pays to be prepared for the unexpected, so they say. That’s being practical, and it can be a tremendous advantage. When it comes to health and safety, not only is treatment necessary, but precaution and prevention as well. About the author. Tue, 4 Mar 2008 06:04:12 +0100 Home Health Care For The Mentally Ill http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/home-health-care1 http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/home-health-care1 Mental illness can wreak so much havoc on a person and their families. But the reality of mental illness is disheartening, and statistics are alarming. Twenty five percent of people living in the United Kingdom have some sort of mental issue, and this is quite a large number. Among these mental health issues are schizophrenia, manic depression and anxiety to mention a few. Many of these people are in need of home healthcare. After all, the mentally ill can be debilitated. Their illness may cause them to be unable to function normally. Mental health issues can limit a person and the quality of their life in so many ways. That’s why these people – the mentally ill- need assistance. This assistance can be in the form of home health care. Homecare professionals such as caregivers can help mentally handicapped people how to take care of themselves. From taking a bath, to grooming to going about in public places. These are some of the basic services of a caregiver. And this can be a big help to the family of the patient. After all, other family members have their responsibilities at work and in the community. They may not be able to cater to all the needs of their handicapped family member. They need to make a living to sustain their needs, and those of their incapacitated relative. Caregivers can prove to be such a blessing to these families. Home health care is one of the most in demand healthcare services of this time. Who needs homehealth care, many people often ask. There are quite a number of cases which need this homecare service. Not just mentally ill people, but those recovering from surgery or those who have been incapacitated by an accident. Victims of stroke and other debilitating illnesses may need this as well. Homecare professionals or caregivers are growing in number as demand for their services increases. Indeed, so many people are incapacitated, and home health care has become and indispensable trend. Families now find more freedom despite having an incapacitated family member. And disabled family members, they can now enjoy a better quality of life. This is among the significant benefits of home health care. There are actually several sorts of a homecare service. First there is the respite caregiving wherein another carer fills in for the caregiver. This is a welcome “respite” indeed for the caregiver, as they too are in need of rest. Caring for a debilitated patient does have its demands and pressures, and there can be such thing as a “caregiver burnout”. Then there is also cargiving through supported living. In this case, a carer goes into the house of the patient and gives them assistance. Other than these two home health care services, there is the full time homecare wherein the patient is given constant, full time care. A relative, a friend or a full time homecare professional may perform this duty. Caring and assistance of this sort can prove to be very helpful in so many ways. About the author. Wed, 6 Feb 2008 12:29:10 +0100 The Different Look And Style Of Home DÉcor http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/home-decor http://www.healthzine.org/Home-health-care/home-decor Your home says so much about who you are- the person who lives in it. And part of your home is the home décor. Your home décor actually creates a statement. The personality of the home, the style and the taste of its owner. Such is why your home décor should be well thought of. Shopping for home décor does not mean grabbing the most attractive item. Taking down the aisle the décor which instantly appeals to one’s whims. The thing with home décor, to be of good taste, is that it has to have a theme. Home décor must be well coordinated and organized. That is, for the home to make sense and to be elegant. To exude panache and refinement. For home décor with flair, there must be a well laid out décor for each room. You would want the décor for each room to speak of its own personality. That way, your home décor all throughout speaks of variety. Your home then can only give out life and diversity which blends well with each other. When it comes to room décor for a house, lights are some of the first things that come into mind. Lights can be a big factor in creating the proper décor for a room. When you’ve chosen the first few items for your décor, most likely the theme will evolve from them. For instance, you find a certain theme attractive. You can start off buying items about that theme and then move on from there. You can find your interest growing as you can see your home décor expanding. This as you add more items and ideas for your home décor. Often the case is that there is a certain theme for a décor all throughout the house. But still, more often, there is a theme for each room in the house. This gives each room its own look and feel which can only make a house more interesting. The keys to look for in a proper room décor? For one thing, you can consider the size and type of family gathering for the room. And especially bedrooms. They take on the personality of the person staying in the room. Kids’ bedroom décor is one of the themes which can be very engaging to put together. If you have kids, it can really be fun shopping for items for the room décor. There are a few limits to giving your kids a room filled with dreams and joy. Thus you can get wacky with all the colors and style that you can incorporate into the theme. If your children are younger, you can put up a décor which stimulates learning. That’s how it is with home décor. It must create an impression yet one which gives a warm, homey feeling. That way you can feel the essence of your home. And not only you, but your family and your guests as well. Your home décor makes your home, and it can be one which not only brings style but warmth and coziness. It is best that you choose your it well and take time planning for it. About the author.
