By no doubt, a heart disease is deadly. It affects one of the body’s major organs- the heart. When the heart stops beating, this leads to fatality. Heart disease can highly possibly lead to fatality. Much more so if heart disease is neglected and blood flow to the heart is hampered. There are cases wherein surgery is needed to remedy heart disease. In such instances, an may be required. What is an open heart surgery? It is termed as open heart surgery when a surgery requires that the chest is opened. It is then that procedures may be performed on the heart.

By open heart surgery, it means that the chest is opened. The heart can also be dissected, but this is not carried out in all cases. An open heart surgery involves procedures done on the heart arteries. The same can be said with the heart valves and muscles and other related areas. Open heart surgery is a term also used for other operations. They are those procedures performed through smaller incisions. If the heart disease persists despite these interventions, it is then that surgery may be performed. Accurate diagnosis is needed to determine whether a patient needs open heart surgery. For this, there is coronary arteriography. In this diagnostic procedure, the doctor tries to locate arterial blockages in the heart. Cardiac catheterization is generally performed during coronary arteriography. In this procedure, a catheter is guided through an artery in the leg or arm. There are several types of open heart surgery.

First there is the coronary angioplasty. This is a common open heart surgery procedure. It is also known as percutaneous translumainal coronary angioplasty. Angioplasty and balloon angioplasty are two of its common names. Then there is the coronary bypass, also a common open heart surgery operation. A radical open heart surgery procedure is the heart transplant. The heart transplant is apparently a complicated procedure. As one heart replaces the other, many blood vessels have to be disconnected and reconnected. An open heart surgery in UK costs around 12,000 – 15,000 pounds. With the trend in medical tourism, one can avail of the surgery at a much lesser cost.

In India, an open heart surgery would only cost around 2,000- 3,000 pounds. The quality of treatment is paramount to an open heart surgery. A patient can avail of world class treatment with a heart surgery with much lesser expenses. This can be had by having the surgery in India. The expertise of Indian doctors is renowned worldwide. So is medical care in private Indian hospitals. This is one of the advantages of medical tourism. When a patient wants to resort to medical tourism, the benefits ought to be weighed against the risks. This holds true for .
