Thai Massage: A Mix Of Spirituality And Massage

Tags: , ,

has been a long standing healing modality of the Thai culture. More than a healing modality, Thai massage is a healing art which in more ways have contributed to the identity and distinction that is Thai. In the same manner that one can fall in love with and get addicted to Thai food, Thai massage has its own allure which can make one “Dtit jai” or heart stuck. Indeed, when one’s body, senses and spirit has savored every technique of Thai massage, their heart will be entranced by the massage therapy’s magic. This may come as no surprise as Thai massage, other than a healing art is also a philosophy and a spiritual practice.

Thai massage, as it is deeply rooted in spirituality can be an effective means to address depression. This only serves to show how the massage technique can have a deeply embedded effect on the total being. After all, depression is an illness of an individual’s intangible aspect- the mind and the emotions. But as the effects of can be potent, they seep down into an individual’s inner recesses. No wonder then that after a session or so of the massage therapy, one can feel total relaxation and a sense of renewal. In Thailand, parents massage their children, which is why Thai massage has been perpetuated for thousands of years.

Every town in Thailand has at least one massage parlor giving visitors and locals alike an unforgettable taste of the massage therapy their culture has long been proud of. As much as Thai massage originated in Thailand, the massage technique has been renowned and acknowledged all over the world. Much more so, it is taught in every massage therapy school worldwide. This form of massage, just like Ayurvedic massage, is an integration of certain Eastern spiritual techniques along with traditional massage. In a Thai massage session, the muscles are kneaded until they soften and all tension knots have been released.

The massage technique does use traditional massage methods, but one distinction of Thai massage is that it uses certain Eastern techniques such as deep breathing and knowledge of pressure points. The end result of intense relaxation and rejuvenation is undoubtedly assured. There is a wide gap of variation between Thai massage and traditional western massage. This characteristic disparity has made a host of westerners look for more of this Eastern massage technique once they get a taste of it. For one to enjoy the massage therapy to the optimum, however, one has to be in tune with their body. One’s elements have to be receptive to the massage practice by keeping their mind and body in a state of total relaxation.

It would defeat the purpose of getting a Thai massage therapy when one is tense during the whole process. The point is, there should be no resistance, otherwise total tension will not be released. Such is what gives Thai massage its own uniqueness and character. It involves all senses and all aspects to take part and be in tune and to be in the moment while is being given.
