Seeking Cure Through Alternative Medicine

Tags: , ,

is popular to nearly 40% of Americans in the midst of the most modern in health care facilities, most extensive in the range of medicines available in the market and most thorough in research and studies. Medicine in general is great because it helps people fight illnesses, feel better, and live with aches and pains. However, with years invested in the most modern, most extensive and most thorough of the over-all health care system, alternative medicine has become a welcomed development. What exactly though is alternative medicine and what is in it that has now made converts to many? Alternative medicine is the opposite of conventional treatments.

It is neither complementary medicine too because complementary medicine makes use of both the alternative and conventional treatments. Simply put, it takes off from the established techniques and rigors of conventional medicine. As experts agree, it is a type of therapeutic practice that is not considered to be a part of traditional or conventional medical treatment. People use alternative medicine instead of using traditional medical treatment often because they feel it is a natural way to get better. And it has a lot of types with particular ones covered by medical insurance however on a bigger scale, most are really not covered.

Some forms of alternative medicine that may be covered are chiropractic and osteopathic therapy, forms of that are recognized to be widely used. And there are other forms that are not as widely used, but are becoming more popular by the minute. Among these are folk medicine, massage therapy, therapeutic touch, herbal medicine, music therapy, special diets, homeopathy, aromatherapy, faith healing, naturopathy and new age healing. Non-Western forms in alternative medicine include Chinese medicine, gi gong, reiki, and ayarveda. There are some less commonly practiced forms as well, an example of which is called biofield therapy. This is a form of alternative medicine that works with your so called "energy fields" to heal you.

Another is bioelectrical magnetic therapy that uses pulse and magnetic fields to heal you. Studies further show that alternative medicine has become popular for people who are terminally ill including a number of AIDS and cancer patients. Specific commom cases as example of this is a cancer patient who uses alternative medicine instead of receiving traditional chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Alternative medicine is also for people with other ailments such as back pain or migraines. The other important thing is that to date, there is no scientific evidence on its effectivity, meaning there have been no scientific studies to prove if they are safe or if they work for the diseases or ailments they are used for.

As such, before using an alternative medicine, talk to your doctor, make sure your doctor feels it is safe and will not cause further harm. There are many different kinds to choose from and now that you understand it a bit better, you can decide if it is right for you. To be fully enlightened, consult your doctor or research it online. Chances are, thorough research will lead you to find one that is right for you. Significant rise in the practice of alternative medicine was noted between 1990 and 1997 where in the United States alone, figures recorded an increase of 33.8% to 42.1%.

Added to such are the offer for more degrees in practices alongside some 85% of nursing schools in America as well.
