And yet prostate cancer affects men in a high percentage.

Fifty to seventy percent of men in their 70’s have evidence of prostate cancer. What seems more alarming is that only 1 in 10 of these men show prostate cancer symptoms. In the initial stages, symptoms of may not be apparent. This can get in the way of taking early measures. How else can a man get any medical help if he is not aware that he is ill. Symptoms of prostate cancer often appear in the later stages. Prostate cancer is a slow growing disease. Initial symptoms may not manifest, but in the later stage, there may be indications.



Among them are painful urination, frequent urination especially at night and a slow urinary stream. Sometimes there may even be blood in the urine. There may be a feeling of complete emptying of the bladder after urination and dribbling after urination. These symptoms often indicate prostate cancer. If the cancer is left to degenerate, further symptoms may start to show. These can be fatigue, pain in the bones, weight loss and anemia. The cause of prostate cancer had been vague, however it is said to be linked with age, lifestyle and a man’s diet. So with a man’s testosterone metabolism.

How to protect against prostate cancer? Much cannot be done with age, but modifications can be done with the lifestyle and diet. When it comes to the diet, it would be best to avoid animal fats. More fiber should be incorporated into what one consumes, such as by taking lots of fruits and vegetables. One should also take time in having ample intake of anti- foods. These are rice, soy products, seafood such as oysters, green and yellow vegetables, whole grains and bran. The same can be said with pulses, pumpkin seeds, garlic, shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, tomatoes, seeds and nuts, oily fish, Brussel sprouts and broccoli.

A man should be mindful to cut down on alcohol and meat. Furthermore, he should take time to maintain a healthy weight. Supplements may also help in warding off the cancer. These can promote better prostate health especially when one already suffers from the disease. These supplements are those which contain Saw Palmetto, Coenzyme Q10, Selenium, lycopene, Vitamins C, D, and E, shark cartilage and zinc. Men must be mindful to make means to tend to their health. Success is good, but it is best enjoyed with good health and well-being. Total wellness ought to be a priority for longevity and worthwhile living.
