Health and fitness are by far the best means by which an individual can enjoy well-being and a good quality of life. Such is why the pursuit of excellent health and fitness should be within everybody’s life agenda, otherwise much energy is wasted on frustration and distress brought about by ill-health and a poor quality of living.
Often, the case is that the antithesis to health and fitness is obesity. It is well within everybody’s knowledge that obese people have higher chances of developing cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, respiratory problems and osteoarthritis in weight bearing joints to name a few. The morbidly obese are even put to an alarming and distressing risk of a shortened lifespan other than or due to these conditions.

Morbidly obese individuals or those suffering from what is termed as clinical obesity are people with a BMI of 40 or above and are 100 pounds or more overweight than their ideal weight. Other than the precarious health issues involved, the morbidly obese are often more apt to suffer from social, emotional and psychological drawbacks as well.
With an often discriminatory society, it may not be surprising that the morbidly obese suffer from a great deal of prejudice and ridicule owing to their condition. Such can cause much stress and even distress to morbidly obese individuals which is why they are more prone to suffer from low esteem and even depression.
In the endeavor of losing weight, the morbidly obese generally end up frustrated as in most cases, traditional measures for weight loss prove to be ineffective due to the severity of their condition. Of all the treatments available for the morbidly obese, one that can be promising is stomach surgery or otherwise known as bariatric surgery.
In cases of morbidly obese individuals where all weight loss measures have failed, stomach surgery can enable substantial weight loss. Stomach surgery is generally the last recourse for the morbidly obese but such a measure may be necessitated as morbid obesity is a chronic health condition. In most cases, the struggle of the morbidly obese with their weight demons is an exigent, arduous one.
What seems to be more disappointing is that they often fail. When morbidly obese individuals engage in exercise and keep to strict dieting, their effort may end up to be futile as clinical obesity is obesity in its most severe form. In fact, when a morbidly obese individual tries to adhere to a weight loss diet, it may even exacerbate their condition as they end up gaining their weight back or even gaining more weight.
Traditional methods for weight loss may succeed for the morbidly obese, but often, the case is that their success is fleeting. While stomach surgery is seen as a drastic measure for the morbidly obese, it is seen as a means offering lesser risks than the health hazards posed for those suffering from clinical or morbid obesity.
Stomach surgery, bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery may be seen as an extremely effective treatment for morbid obesity, but it requires careful evaluation on each case and the patient should couple the treatment with a healthy lifestyle.
