Obesity is generally seen as a precarious health situation as it poses an individual primarily to threatening health risks which are capable of shortening their life span. More than that, obesity delivers major psychological and emotional drawbacks as obese people are often subjects of ridicule and discrimination. With the obesity rate rising to an alarming proportion, it has become expedient that individuals be made aware of the certain hazards of being beset by this condition.

As obese individuals tend to have low glucose tolerance, they run increases risks of acquiring type 2 diabetes. Sleep apnea is also prevalent among obese individuals as fat accumulation tends to restrict air passages while sleeping causing bouts of breathlessness and heavy snoring. As for obese women, certain types of cancers such as that of the ovaries, cervix, uterus, breast and the gall bladder prevail.
Aside from these ominous health risks for obese women, it is also anticipated for such individuals to suffer from social and emotional issues. Obese women are less likely to have the opportunity of getting jobs in any labor sector and more often, they are subject to labor discrimination. Other than that, obese women are often prone to suffer from low self-esteem as society imposes much expectation on women to be attractive by being thin.
Aside from this cultural expectation of beauty, being gluttonous and lazy has often been associated with obesity in many cultures making obese men and women are more apt to suffer from depression. This dismal fact, obese women, have to contend with other than confronting their weight demons. These and a whole lot of other health and personal issues obese women have to battle with.
By this, it is essential that obese women cultivate a positive approach in dealing with the dilemma of obesity. Support groups may be helpful for obese women against their struggle coupled with proper knowledge and awareness about the condition and the implementation of effective weight loss and health measures.
