Many are well aware that the teenage years can be a tumultuous phase. It is one where significant physiological alterations take place. Along with it are major physical and emotional changes. Adolescence is a stage of transition and at times it can be challenging. It is essential for teenagers to develop their personal identity.

Peer pressure can be so demanding in this stage as well. Physical appearance is becoming a major concern as it is imperative in peer acceptance. Such is why obesity in teens can be a major dilemma. Obesity in teens poses tremendous social, physical and emotional drawbacks to teenagers concerned. Obesity in teens also has psychological consequences.

The fact is, obesity in teens is more than just a case of eating too much. There are so many underlying factors deemed to be the causes of obesity. As for its consequences, they can be grave by no doubt. Other than social, emotional and physical disadvantages, obesity also puts one to ominous health threats.

Obesity has been regarded as a threatening chronic disease. It is disheartening that obesity has become prevalent. Obesity considers no race, gender or ethnic bias. The condition is seen to be widespread in developed countries, such as the United States. In fact, it has assumed alarming proportions in the country.





As for obesity in teens, statistics have also sadly risen. The percentage of obesity in teens has tripled over the last two decades. Statistics have indicated that 15% of teenagers in the US border between being overweight and obese. Such is the alarming and saddening scenario of obesity in teens.

Obesity in teens is among the foremost eating disorders. This can be due to the fact that teenagers don’t have a regular eating schedule. Or that they prefer fast-food and ready-made food to home-cooked meals. Obesity in teens has lesser health consequences than adult obesity. However, overweight teenagers have a higher chance of growing into obese adults.

It is only imperative then that the problem of obesity in teens be precluded early on. Measures have to be taken to address obesity in teens. Otherwise it can lead to a more chronic dilemma of adult obesity. Problems are yet present with obesity in teens. Obesity among teenagers is found to result in the weakening of their physical health.

This in turn leads to them being lethargic and restricted to indoor activities. Obesity in teens leads to social disability, unhappiness and loneliness. This can pose as a tremendous dilemma for teenagers. Obesity can make it difficult for teenagers to have new associations. Their weight problem is at the back of their minds and it can weigh them down psychologically.

Obesity pulls teenagers towards introversion. And sadly, obesity can cause significant stress and mental illness among teenagers. According to researches, obese teenagers are more prone to physical bullying. They can both be victims or perpetrators of it. This in turn can lead to serious mental complications in adult life. Such is why obesity in teens have to be rendered its due concern.

Addressing obesity in teens early on can lead to overall health not only physically but in all aspects of the well-being.
